Olympia, The Division Agent

A profile of Olympia, an Agent of The Division, for Stories of The Division. Sponsored by Ubisoft.

“On a routine patrol, we find two families sheltering inside a studio apartment. They're all exhibiting symptoms, but insist it's just the flu. We show them we have transportation outside, we can get them treatment, and they're saying no. But real quiet, subdued. Like something’s just… wrong.

"My partner catches my eye and nods toward one of the supposed family members, an ‘uncle.’ I see it immediately. The guy has a tattoo on his forearm, partly covered by his shirt, but I recognize it anyway: a supremacist mark. Once I see him, the whole scene changes: the cousins in the corner, hunched over ‘sick’ all got that same hard-time vibe. One of them has a bulge in his lower back: a gun. Another one's lingering near a discarded hamper, like he's ready to grab a stashed weapon.

"We keep up the friendly chatter with the families, but we drop into protocol and use subtle hand signals to each other to orient for a close-quarters takedown. One of our guys asked to take the women and children into the hall on the pretense of giving them medical exams first. The ‘uncle,’ the one with the tat, says something to the other two -- and in that instant I know he knows. A second later he whips out an M9. I dove and squeezed off a controlled burst into his chest; my team put the other two down in seconds.

"Turns out they'd escaped from Rikers and were holding these poor people hostage for almost a week. We got the families to a CERA clinic, but it was a good reminder for all of us working in the field: never assume anything out here. Even if you think you understand the situation, you have to go in with eyes and ears open."

Stories of The Division offers an intimate look into the lives of 20 fictional New Yorkers living in the world of Tom Clancy's The Division. These conversations are set during the early stages of the outbreak. This series was written and produced by Studio 61 of CBS Interactive in collaboration with Ubisoft.
