Older games dominate the sales charts

PC Data's most recent list of best-selling games looks like an all-star reunion.

Comments

PC Data has released its latest list of best-selling games, and it doesn't include any new releases. The most recently released game that appears in the top ten is Havas Interactive's Hoyle Casino 2001, which was released in mid-November 2000 and took fifth place this week. EA's virtual life game The Sims, which took the top spot once again, was released in early 2000, and The Sims: Livin' Large, the popular expansion pack for the game, took second place despite being released nearly six months ago. Hasbro Interactive's Roller Coaster Tycoon is the oldest game on the list, having been released back in March 1999. Incredibly, the game has remained in the top ten best-selling games list almost continuously since its release, and it once again took third place in this week's list.

Infogrames' multiplayer action game Unreal Tournament, which was released in November 1999, took fourth place at a discounted price of around $18. Diablo II, Blizzard's popular action/role-playing game from last June, took sixth place, and Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2, Westwood Studios' real-time strategy game released in October, took seventh. Microsoft's real-time strategy game Age of Empires II: Age of Kings was released in September 1999, and it still took eighth place in the most recent list. Both remaining games on the list, Combat Flight Simulator 2: World War II Pacific Theater and Roller Coaster Tycoon: Loopy Landscapes, were released in October 2000.
