Okami pounces onto DS in Japan
Famitsu reveals first details on portable installment of Clover Studios' swan song, due in island nation next year; all-new adventure, stylus controls.
Though it initially appeared on the PlayStation 2 in 2006, Clover Studios' swan song Okami is a game that was seemingly built for Nintendo's platforms. As the white wolf Amaterasu, players trigger magical abilities by painting symbols onscreen, a motion that easily lends itself to the Wii's motion-sensing remote or the DS's touch-screen stylus.

The first transition to Nintendo's platform occurred in April 2008, when Capcom and Ready at Dawn teamed on the highly regarded Wii edition of the game. Following on from a Japanese Patent Office filing last week, Famitsu now has the first details on the DS version of the game, titled Okamiden: Chisaki Taiyou. (A scan of the magazine was obtained by WiiEveryday and translated by GameSpot.)
According to Famitsu, Okamiden will be an all-new adventure in the Okami universe, though it will be set in the same areas as the PS2 and Wii editions. Further, the game will follow a new, younger character several months after the events of the original. Gameplay will be similar to previous versions, and players will use the DS's stylus to draw the franchise's hallmark magical symbols.
Famitsu notes that Okamiden: Chiisaki Taiyou is due in Japan in 2010, though it did not indicate when, or if, the game would see a worldwide release. Capcom's North American arm had not responded to requests for comment as of press time. According to the magazine, a playable version of the game will be on hand at the Tokyo Game Show, which runs September 24-27.
