You could be forgiven for not realizing Umbrella Corps, the new Resident Evil competitive shooter is out today. But here we are.

Umbrella Corps launches today on PC and PS4 for $30. The June 21 release date had been announced previously, but the game has arrived to little fanfare; Capcom certainly hasn't built the game up the way you'd expect it to with a new Resident Evil.

Now Playing: Umbrella Corps - Launch Trailer

Of course, Umbrella Corps isn't your typical Resident Evil game, which may explain why RE isn't technically in the name. Originally slated for release in May, it's a cover-based, 3v3 online shooter set in memorable locations from throughout the series, such as Resident Evil 4's village and the streets of Raccoon City.

The launch trailer above teases that new maps and modes are in development and will be released for free. A Capcom blog post notes this includes maps based on Spencer Mansion and an area in China from Resident Evil 6, as well as a 4 Survivors mode where resources are more limited.

Premium DLC is already available on Steam and PSN, with the Upgrade Pack providing additional weapons and cosmetic options for $15. Alternatively, this is included with the $40 Deluxe Edition.

Umbrella Corps may not be the Resident Evil game fans are hoping for, but Capcom did announce a proper new game--Resident Evil 7--at E3. It's scheduled for release in January, and you can check out a demo on PS4 right now, though it isn't necessarily comprised of what you'll see in the full game.
