Oculus Rift creator Palmer Luckey will make a "special announcement" during The Game Awards this week, show organizer Geoff Keighley teased in a tweet.

In his own tweet, Luckey said: "Really cool announcement happening at The Game Awards! (Not preorders opening)."

No further details are available at this time. There are a few major lingering questions about the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset, including its price and release date. Those are two possibilities for what Luckey may reveal during the show, if his announcement even pertains to the Rift at all.

Whatever the case, we'll have all the news for you as it's announced. The Game Awards take place this Thursday, December 3, starting at 6 PM PST / 9 PM EST.

There will be at least 10 "world premieres" during the show. The Oculus announcement is one of them, while others include the first look at Far Cry Primal gameplay, the reveal of a new DLC character for Mortal Kombat X, and new Quantum Break gameplay and live-action footage.
