Now Playing: Free PS4/PS3/Vita PlayStation Plus Games For October 2017 Revealed

The products discussed here were independently chosen by our editors. GameSpot may get a share of the revenue if you buy anything featured on our site.

We're now at the end of October, and if you haven't already done so, there's a new batch of free PlayStation Plus games for the month to still claim. Anyone who subscribes to Plus have a total of six games to download, spread evenly across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and Vita--although PS4 owners undoubtedly have the best selection. [Update: We've now learned the lineup of free PS Plus games for November, and it's another month with more than two games for PS4 owners.]

October's highlight is undoubtedly the headlining PS4 game, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Its predecessor, Ground Zeroes, was offered previously, but The Phantom Pain is a far more substantial experience. While not the end of the Metal Gear series--there's still the upcoming Metal Gear Survive, at the very least--The Phantom Pain is the last game to feature the participation of Hideo Kojima, who created the franchise.

Additionally, PS4's freebies include one that's perfect with Halloween coming up. Amnesia Collection is also free; it's a compilation of two different horror games: Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs. An additional two games can be had for free on PS4 this month, thanks to Cross-Buy being supported by October's Vita games, Sky Force Anniversary and Hue. This month's offerings are rounded out by the two free PS3 games, Hustle Kings and Monster Jam Battlegrounds. PS3 owners also get access to Sky Force Anniversary, which actually supports three-way Cross-Buy.

Time has already run out for That's You, a freebie that has been around for a while now but exited the free rotation on October 24. Another free game, the PSVR title RIGS, will return to its regular price on November 7.

Finally, Plus members get into the closed beta for Hand of the Gods, Smite developer Hi-Rez Studios' new game. To help get started, Plus subscribers can download a DLC pack that includes various freebies to help them get started.

All of these freebies are up for download on the PlayStation Store right now. They can be claimed either through the respective systems or on the PSN website.

Why does Sony always take so long to reveal the PS Plus games of the month? It's already November!

I seriously don't get the purpose of this article. Every person who owns a PS4 and has PS Plus can go to the PS Store and look at the 2 Free games offered this month. Just about Every person who has PS Plus does this anyway, it's an automatic monthly check to see what Free games are offered that month. Now, when the November List Hits, that's something I'm looking forward to, because it gives me early knowledge of what'll be available for my Plus in the next couple of days a bit Earlier.

@tsunami2311:It plays nothing like any of the previous games in the franchise. I been there since the MSX/Nintendo days. Eery game has gotten better gameplay wise, but Phantom is unique. Not bad, the upgrade system had a purpose, I just wish that Konami had left the guy alone and let him do his thing as he does, and not ruined it and force an incomplete game out the door. It was suppose to wrap up the entire series full circle. now we have no idea where David comes in, or what happened to Elli and the MG he had stolen.

@fakieflip180: I'm not going to even pretend like I'm anywhere near an expert on Metal Gear Solid. I played Metal Gear Solid 2 from start to finish for PS2 and Liked it alot. I played a little bit of 3. Now for PS Plus, this was my 1st time playing MGS5: The Phantom Pain. Konami completely shot themselves in the foot when they fired Hideo Kojima and decided to take on the Franchise. Total bunch of F**king idiots. I know that MGS has a HUGE Legacy and Story behind it, Dating back to the 90's. How in God's name will they attempt to continue the franchise, when the man behind it's conception isn't around Any More? F*ck That. I'm disgusted by Konami (albeit I don't know the reason why they parted with Hideo Kojima) and he's a Damn Legend. I, for one Refuse to play any further entries of MGS just for that reason Alone. Konami hasn't been very successful of late, or even in the last decade. By firing Kojima, they've essentially created the road to their Total Failure imo.

Entirely incorrect article. the Metal Gear franchise is over, they booted Hideo from Konami, so anything that comes out from here on is not cannon to his great legacy and will just be trying to make money off his name. Need an example? You mentioned one, MG: Survive.

@mrblondex: A correction needs to be made in your article. The Amnesia Collection actually has 3 games in it, not two. The one you failed to mention is called Justine. A little more research and/or less rushing to post old news next time, yea?

@electronic_eye: It was a free DLC pack, not a standalone game, and thus I didn't feel it warranted being called out as a third title.

I think MGS:PP looks amazing, it plays like previous game in franchise which neither a good or bad thing. I not fan of the "uprgade" system and all it levels for weapons

Great game MGSV! But already have it... Same with a major of games released the past few months. And I'm not one of those people that trades in my game for half the price. I still have every game I've ever owned except 3.

O well. Maybe something new next month

The past few months, the games have been good. This month particular is fantastic. Maybe we'll start seeing a good reason for that price hike.

@ibonedyourmom: Amnesia and SOMA are very different games. The two things they have a common is the first person perspective and the monsters, the later really takes away from the game... While they look fun the chase/hide sequences are not very well done and kinda boring but where SOMA truly shines is in it's history and atmosphere but I can understand why someone wouldn't find it fun.

Hustle Kings and Monster Jam Battlegrounds for the PS3 isn't showing up as free on the Playstation Store. Maybe it needs a little bit longer for the discount to show up?

The only things I disliked about MGSV is that it's in 2 parts (Ground Zero and The Phantom Pain) and how it's said it could have been longer had Konami been patient. Besides that, still a nice stealth game. Wish more like this were on the market.

For "free", this is a steal.

Also, isn't Hustle Kings that pool game that is free on PS4!?

@kaminobenimizu: yea, people love themselfs some Kojima. There was some outrage, but far from what i would call backlash. Had it been any other game studio then it would of caused boycotts.

As not somone who's a kojima fanboy i thought it was a pretty dick move and still do. Especially as a ps+ member, cause we got ground zero abouttwo years ago. And i felt like i was kinda rippied off that month.

@BlazeKingz: It looked more like a Konami move more than a Kojima move, as weird as it sounds, people wouldn't boycott Kojima because of Konami's screw ups. However, now that Kojima is gone...

Besides, they don't have much left. Bomberman was a mess on Switch I've heard, and MGS is a zombie shooter for some insane reason.

Sure, MGS was never realistic, but still. Well, there's PES, but it's not enough at all. I wonder who's the current leader of the company...

Great list of games. MGSV is obviously the big name on that list but there are some other notable titles too. Hope Sony keeps up to this standard of giveaways.

@videogameninja: I really hope so too. They've definitely improved their Free Game Lineup in the last 3 months. Almost reminds me of the PS3 age, when 2 Big games were offered Every month, but we're still not there yet. Since everyone is into different Genres, I'd very much like Sony to change the way the 2 Free games thing is done. I wish every month they offered a Pool of different games from different Genres and the Plus owner was allowed to choose the 2 Games from the Genres of their liking. Off course, this is wishful thinking and Sony will Never do this, but it would be Great. There are months when I Completely don't care for the Genre the Free Games are in, so a wasted month in terms of Freebies. Just an idea though.

@gggyoquick728: Obviously that would be ideal, as you mentioned, but I don't think any of us should hold our breath that that will happen. While what Sony has implemented right now is not perfect I must admit that they have been fairly good with the selection of their free games compared to previous years.

I recall some pretty big name games this year alone like Resident evil 1 & 2 HD, Infamous, etc... Then you add in the mix a juggernaut title like Metal Gear Solid 5 and its hard to argue that Sony hasn't at least been doing a decent job.

Could it be better like you alluded to in your comment? Absolutely. Has what Sony has been doing right now been okay? While that's debatable as well as subjective/opinion based I think at the end of the day it's fair to say that they have.

@valgaav_219: Glad to hear you're open to giving it a second chance. While there is no mandate that says "Everyone MUST love this one game!" it definitely is one of those titles that has garnered a lot of praise from fans and critics alike.

I know it is categorized as a survival/zombie game but the truth is when I hear the words The Last of Us my mind doesn't necessarily go there. When I think of those words I think of struggle, the relationships built and forged, sacrifice, decisions, great story-telling and emotion. Its funny but the term zombie/clicker doesn't come until after all those, lol.

Hopefully you pick it up sooner than later as its one of those few rare games that might change your perspective on the genre while providing you with a fun and engaging experience at the same time.
