NYT Crosswords coming to DS

Majesco releasing game based around newspaper's popular puzzles; 1,000 crosswords, multiple modes included.

Sudoku may be sweeping the globe, but for puzzle purists, nothing beats a good old-fashioned crossword puzzle. Majesco, having already seen the market flooded with DS Sudoku games, is offering up The New York Times Crosswords for Nintendo's handheld. The game is being developed by Budcat Creations and will be released this spring. More than 1,000 crossword puzzles will be included, and gamers can enter their answers with either a touch-screen keyboard or with the console's stylus and handwriting recognition technology. Though crosswords are usually a solitary diversion, two players can jump into cooperative or competitive modes over the DS's wireless capabilities.

I like it. These are the games that give the DS its appeal to all kinds of other demographics.

Cooperative and competitive wireless play? They'd better use the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection becausee you probably won't be able to find many friends who want to play with you.

Great idea by the NYT and Nintendo. I will definitely buy this game. NYT > Murdoch-owned NYP. ;)

What a great idea. My only problem with this is that I have a hard enough time getting my DS to understand the number 7, and that's when I have the whole touch screen to write in. The keyboard seems like a great solution. They also need to set up some sort of online subscription so you can download today's puzzle via hotspots.

RaiKageRyu Said: "Once again, the DS leans towards non-gamers." DS doesn't lean towards anyone, it caters for everyone, which is why it's selling so danm hot

Ahh... the only redeeming part of the NYT is now sold seperately. Puzzle-loving conservatives nationwide rejoice. @TimSpot: LOL, nice one.

The DS truly is going to new markets, but with paperback Crossword books being, like, $3 for 100 or so puzzles, which is really the better value?
