NVidia Strikes Back With Design Win

NVidia's TNT2 chipset chosen by Micron to power its Millenia series of desktop computers.

Comments

Micron, one of the world's most established system integrators, has selected nVidia's upcoming TNT2 chipset as a standard feature on its entire Millenia series of desktop home computers.

Diamond Multimedia will supply Micron with 16MB Viper V770s and 32MB Viper V770 Ultras, both powered by the nVidia TNT2 and Ultra TNT2, respectively.

Diamond's relationship with Micron is nothing new. Its nVidia TNT-powered Viper V550 currently comes standard in several Millenia configurations, and is also available as an upgrade on other Micron systems.

While not immediately available, Millenia systems equipped with the TNT2s will be ready for public consumption in mid-May, when Diamond ships the V770.

TNT2-based video cards will ship with a minimum clock frequency of 125MHz, with some vendors clocking their products up to as high as 183MHz. However, since neither nVidia nor any of the board companies has released official clock speeds, the latter figure remains speculative. Regardless, the TNT2 is poised to prove itself as worthy competition for 3dfx Interactive's Voodoo3.

In addition to Diamond, Guillemot and Elsa are among the other vendors shipping their TNT2 products this May. Taiwan-based Leadtek has already started shipping its TNT2-based boards.
