Nvidia Reveals RTX 3080 Gaming Laptops, Alongside Options for RTX 3060 And 3070

Nvidia has revealed the GeForce RTX 3060 at CES, and other 30-series cards. A new generation of laptops was also revealed. These laptop models are built on the latest Ampere architecture with third-generation Max-Q technology. Max-Q is Nvidia's performance and stress optimization technology which helps reduce the heat coming off your hardware. This may indicate that the RTX card isn't as powerful, but it will save your setup from melting.

Laptops equipped with the GeForce 3060 are purported to be 1.3 times faster than the PlayStation 5 and allow for 90 FPS gameplay with Ultra settings at 1080p. These will start at $999. 3070 laptops are said to be 1.5 times faster than the RTX 2070 and allow for 90 FPS action with Ultra settings at 1440p. These will start at $1,300. Lastly, 3080-equipped laptops have 16 GB of GDDR6 VRAM and can push gameplay past 100 FPS with Ultra settings at 1440p. These models will start at $2,000.

Studio laptops equipped with the RTX 3080 for video editing and other production work were also revealed. These models feature five times the rendering performance, 8K HDR RAW video editing, and up to 16 GB GDDR6 VRAM. They also use Nvidia's landscape-to-portrait AI which automatically tracks action.

The GeForce RTX 3060 has ten times the ray tracing performance over the GTX, 13 shader teraflops, 25 RT teraflops, 101 tensor teraflops, and 12GB GDDR6 VRAM. The card will start at $329 and will release sometime in late February.

Nvidia also announced that the PCle Resizeable BAR will be supported on GeForce RTX 30-series laptops, the RTX 3060, and all future products. Resizeable BAR is an optional PCI Express interface technology that allows in-game assets to be requested as needed and sent in full, so the CPU can more efficiently access the entire frame buffer during transfers of textures and other assets while you move through games.
