Nvidia announces GeForce 6 GPU
Nvidia announces the upcoming release of its GeForce 6 series of graphics processing units.
Nvidia has today announced the upcoming release of its GeForce 6 series of graphics processing units. The new GPUs have already been adopted by a record number of PC OEMs, add-in card manufacturers, and system builders.
"This is the biggest generation-to-generation performance leap that we have ever seen with a new GPU," said Jen-Hsun Huang, president and CEO of Nvidia. "In addition to the raw performance increase, we had two fundamental strategies with the 6800 models. First was to take programmability to the next level with the industry's only GPU with Shader Model 3.0. Second was to extend the reach of GPUs to the consumer electronics market with a powerful and fully programmable video processor capable of multiple video formats and 'prosumer'-level image processing."
"By combining raw horsepower with the most advanced 3D feature set available, Nvidia has made a landmark graphics processor," added Jeff Fisher, executive vice president of worldwide sales at Nvidia. "Nvidia GeForce 6800 GPUs will be the clear choice for the gamer who demands the very best graphics or the system builder who wants to deliver the best performance for next-generation games such as Doom 3 and Half-Life 2."
