Number Nine to Announce New Card

GameSpot News has learned that Massachusetts-based video chipset manufacturer Number Nine will officially announce a new video card based on S3's Savage4 chipset Wednesday morning.

The Savage4 chipset will ship in two flavors, GT and Pro. Both will be clocked at 125MHz, however the Pro's memory will run at 143MHz while the GT's remains at 125MHz. It's currently not known which of the two Number Nine will announce.

While preliminary benchmarks have shown that the Savage4 chipset won't be able to compete with the offering from 3dfx and nVidia, it will be able to take advantage of S3's heavily vaunted S3TC texture-compression technology.

More details regarding Number Nine's card will emerge with tomorrow morning's announcement.
