Nothing Touches PlayStation

The current leader in hardware sales in Japan is PlayStation...which doesn't surprise anyone.

Comments

Japanese gaming site Game Japan posted sales figures for all video game hardware platforms for 1998. The results were anything but surprising; PlayStation dominates.

Here is the list of hardware sales in Japan for 1998 (through Dec. 13):

PlayStation2,468,825

Game Boy683,894

Game Boy Color489,944

Nintendo 64333,272

Sega Saturn244,428

Dreamcast206,539

Neo Geo Pocket27,702

Dreamcast, not released until the end of November, put in a good showing. DC sales weren't far behind sales of the Nintendo 64 for the entire year and not far behind sales of the Saturn this year.

Dreamcast sales will likely see an increase this week (in Japan) as Sonic Adventure for the Dreamcast was released on the 23rd.
