No plans for Witcher 1 or 2 on PS3
CD Projekt Red says "no such plans for now. Sorry."
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be the first game in the series released on a Sony platform and it may be the only one for the foreseeable future. CD Projekt Red said today during a Raptr Q&A that it has no plans to bring the original Witcher or its sequel The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings to the PlayStation 3.
"Is there any possibility for Witcher 1 or 2 on PS3?" a fan asked. CD Projekt Red replied, "No such plans for now. Sorry."
CD Projekt Red senior producer Tomasz Gop told Eurogamer in 2011 that the studio's proprietary Red engine is capable of working on PS3. He also said the company would "love" to bring The Witcher 2 to the system.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt launches in 2014 for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. It is not in development for current-generation systems because doing so would result in compromises that could negatively impact gamers, according to CD Projekt Red CEO Marcin Iwinski.
"The Witcher 3 is so large… with a world bigger than Skyrim, and everything that we wanted to put inside it, there's just no way that it would run on current-gen," he said in April. "We'd have to put a couple of years of development into [360 and PS3 versions], and then the experience would be so-so… we'd never do that."
