No Man's Sky details have slowly emerged since its announcement in December 2013. We've gotten a look at the gameplay, heard about the game's infinite world, and seen the game's procedural generation at work. But developer Hello Games has been quiet about which platforms the game would release on. We knew it was coming to the PlayStation 4, but how about the PC?

Now we know that No Man's Sky will, in fact, launch on PC--although not right away. In the September issue of Edge, the game is confirmed to be a timed PS4 exclusive and will be released on computers at a later date.

Hello Games' Sean Murray explained to Edge that working with the PS4 shaped how the team approached design, control, and performance. "I actually got in a bit of trouble for saying that we wanted the game to feel really 'console-y,'" Murray explained. "We've always had PC in mind but in my head [console-y] means solid framerate and immediate controls. I think a PC game can be 'console-y' and it's intended as a compliment, but I get in trouble for saying it."

Hello Games deliberately chose to lead with the PS4, as well. Its reasons encompass more than just limited resources, as well. Murray stated that focusing on the PS4 hardware gave the team the ability to maximize its procedural generation algorithms to make the environments as vivid and full as possible. "Unlike most games, the actual hardware really affects what we can do in terms of the richness of the worlds and things like that," he said. "It isn't just adding a veneer of resolution, or extra antialiasing options. It has a real effect on what we can actually do in the universe."

No Man's Sky launches in 2015. Last month, we featured it as our Next Big Game, and you can check out our extensive coverage here. Although you will primarily be playing alone in the world, you'll meet other players as well, and there will eventually be traditional multiplayer in the game.

We've contacted Hello Games to clarify the details of No Man's Sky's timed exclusivity, and we'll update the story if we receive new information.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> Controllers are vastly superior to keyboard and mouse. A controller is more intuitive, solid and the joysticks are infinitely superior to directional keys. Especially for FPS, where holding a controller feels more like holding a gun. And controllers have triggers...

I'm sorry but I disagree. It's exactly the opposite.Maybe you've got a point that holding a controller feels like a gun but mouse and keyboard is more precise.I've tried FPS on controller so I know. The only way a controller is better is in sportgames.

Ultimately i guess it comes down to what kind of gamer you are.

Hopefully this means the game will feature full controller support when it comes to PC.

I still think its going to be a massive disappointment. After 5 minutes of "oh look thats a nice looking planet due to procedural generation" i suspect i'll then look at the game features and think "wtf is the point of all this?"

I'm happy to wait. You'd have to be pretty materialistic and petty to fork out money just to get the game early for no real reason. Plus itll be cheaper on PC :)

This is one of the many timed exclusives I'll be waiting for on PC (GTA V, No Man's Sky, Galak-Z)

Didn't Sony just have a big PR jab to MS's back saying they don't buy exclusives?

MS timed Tomb Raider = Evil
Sony timed No Man's Sky = Good

Seems fair.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Not only did Sony not buy the exclusive (it was developer choice). MS's timed exclusive, initially everyone thought was in fact an actual proper exclusive. Now that we know Tomb Raider is not any thing more than a timed exclusive - no one cares about it.

Also No Man Sky is a new ip its not being "taken" away from fans... where as Tomb Raider's announcement felt like it was forgetting its fans and only caring about pushing sales on Xbox (of which far less people own compared to the ps4 and PC).

What was shown looked cool, Oldtoble made a good point about it though...as big as it might be you may run through its cache quickly.

What plays suspect is that the tech demo portion was very tightly scripted and only lasted less than 2minutes...

<< LINK REMOVED >> How do you think No Mans Sky will feel like Minecraft? Minecraft is all about crafting and building. No Mans Sky has none of those elements.

Minecraft doesn't FEEL like crafting and building. It feels like a large, empty, and very bland/repeating landscape. Every New seed will be the same basic rolling green hills adjacent to some jungle adjacent to some tundra etc. Yeah, it's never identical, but rarely does a randomized seed blow anyone away with some insanely complex and intriguing formation (albeit this happens occasionally).

The game will not play like Minecraft, but it undoubtedly will have the same element that drove me from the game, and that's a lack of interesting content. You get to a point where you've seen what the randomizer can do. It gets boring pretty fast, and this is even more the case with a game that doesn't allow that same universal ability to interact with and fully modify the world.

The game encourages exploration, so that just means the content will repeat that much faster when compared to a game that encourages building and spacial establishment.

I was kinda looking forward to living in a cave for a while but it sounds like that won't be particularly encouraged. Boo.

Must reserve judgement till more details are made public though - glad to hear him say that it's not an 'ambient experience' where you only observe...I would prefer to hear him say that your actions effect the 'universe' in persistent ways...

I don't know..... When I read about wanting to get the game to feel consoley with steady framerates and immediate controls I thought oh no not a console ported PC game again!I think of Skyrim which is just that,a console ported game.

On the plus side it won't be a social online game but a classical design with a solo campaign and an optional mutiplayer game.I'd like to leave a message to game developers everywhere:do a decent dedicated PC version instead of a cross platform release. If you mean anything by still commited to PC(In paticular I'm thinking about the next elder scrolls game)

A final suggestion to game design:instead of just a seperate capture the flag multiplayer mode make it possible to play both campaign and multiplayer the same way.Meaning that you should be able to play the campaign in solo mode as well as multiplayer. You can then add capture the flag mode and whatever it's called.

Nice... now there is no reason to get a PS4, even though I can find them cheap all day long. I saw one for 330 on local Craigslist. People finally getting a clue that the Sony hype train has derailed.

Finally, an open-world PC game without levels, missions, or getting meleed in the back every time I spawn. Now I can play a game without frustration and actually enjoy it.

So the best PS4 exclusive of the year is easily going to be TLOU 1.1? Save your money until 2015 kids nothing to see here. Indie games are always going to be on PC, which is why it's disingenuous to pimp them out as exclusives for a console lol.
