No Man's Sky Adding Weekly Content Following "Next" Multiplayer Update

No Man's Sky is getting a significant update this month, but that won't be the extent of the new content coming to the ambitious sci-fi exploration game. In addition to the big "Next" update, developer Hello Games has revealed it plans to continue supporting the game with new challenges and content every week.

Speaking to IGN, No Man's Sky creator Sean Murray revealed that the studio will roll out new content for No Man's Sky on a weekly basis following the release of the Next update. This content, Murray says, is "not a loot box thing, it's not a microtransaction thing, it's 100% free," and it'll consist of new community missions and events for players to undertake.

The first of these weekly updates is slated to roll out the week after Next, which launches for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on July 24. Hello Games hasn't announced what kinds of missions players can expect, but IGN reports that these will focus more on exploration. Players who participate in the missions and events will be rewarded with items.

Ahead of the update, Hello Games has launched a new Galactic Atlas website. This site allows players to view in-game events on the Galaxy Map and set up their own points of interest to lead other players to their favorite locations.

No Man's Sky's Next update will introduce a number of commonly requested features to the game. The biggest among these is multiplayer support, which allows players to form a small team of friends or other random members of the community and explore the universe together. Additionally, the update adds a third-person perspective, the ability to command freighters, and an assortment of other visual and gameplay improvements.
