No Last Of Us Game Or TV Show Updates Coming On Last Of Us Day
Developer Naughty Dog announced the focus on the September 26 celebration will be on merchandise and art.
Don't hold your breath for a new Last of Us game reveal or updates on Season 2 of the HBO series tomorrow. Developer Naughty Dog is trying to manage expectations ahead of Last of Us Day, which occurs on September 26 each year.
On Twitter/X, the official Naughty Dog account shared that a special stream will start at 9 AM PT/ 12 PM ET tomorrow "featuring announcements focused on art, merch, and more." That "more," however, doesn't mean new info on The Last of Us Season 2 or updates on the multiplayer title. The studio stated it "will not be discussing any future game or TV show projects."
That said, Naughty Dog has been relatively open about the state of the franchise this year. Earlier this month, Neil Druckmann told Entertainment Tonight that HBO's The Last of Us Season 2 is "ready to go" once the Hollywood writers strike ends. A tentative agreement means it may be over soon. And showrunner Craig Mazin confirmed with The Los Angeles Times recently that Abby has already been cast for the sophomore season.
In May, the studio disclosed that The Last of Us multiplayer game would need more time in development before getting an official unveiling. In the same social media post, Naughty Dog noted it's working on a new single-player experience presumably within the franchise.
The Last of Us originally launched in 2013, so this year marks the franchise's 10-year anniversary. The game was remade as Part I for PS5 last year and became available on PC earlier this year.
