2017 is set to be a big year for Destiny. As announced previously, developer Bungie plans to launch Destiny 2, or whatever the sequel is called, sometime this year. Don't expect news about the game, or whatever is next for ongoing development of the first Destiny, anytime soon, however.

Writing on its website, Bungie said the first "This Week at Bungie" blog post won't contain any major Destiny reveals. This post will be published on January 12.

"We won't be ready for any major reveals, but we'll resume the conversation about the rituals that return to Destiny week over week and month over month," Bungie said. "Thank you for joining us for another trip around the sun. We have a year of adventure planned for you."

One thing that Destiny fans are likely eager to learn more about is Destiny 2. The game was confirmed in February 2016 during an Activision earnings briefing. The game has yet to be formally revealed, but Activision has said it aims to "broaden the appeal" of the franchise.

"We're on track and really excited for what we think is going to be an awesome sequel for Destiny in 2017," Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg said in November 2016. "That sequel is designed to both excite our highly engaged current players but also to broaden the appeal even further, bringing in new fans and bringing back lapsed fans."

It has been reported that Destiny 2 will come to PC and feature more populated planets.

Recently, it was announced that Activision-owned studios High Moon and Vicarious Visions are working on the Destiny franchise alongside Bungie.
