Despite not appearing on a leaked E3 2020 participants list, Nintendo will still be attending this year's convention. The E3 news was shared by Entertainment Software Association, which organizes E3, in a press release, which also listed Xbox among the participants.

The latter brand was absent from the initial participants list but had previously confirmed it would be attending the show.

If it follows its E3 strategy in recent years, that means a long Nintendo Direct presentation followed by several days of gameplay and interviews during Nintendo Treehouse Live. The company stopped doing live press conferences for E3 2013 and has used pre-recorded videos ever since.

Upcoming Nintendo Switch games include Bayonetta 3, Metroid Prime 4, and a The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel. There is also an animated Mario film in the works at Illumination, and a theme park coming to several Universal Studios locations.

Press conference dates are still largely up in the air for E3 2020, but we do know Limited Run Games will be holding its own conference on June 8. Sony will not bring PlayStation to E3 this year, as was the case for E3 2019, but the show will feature Bethesda, Square Enix, Capcom, Ubisoft, Activision, Take-Two, and several other major publishers. Check out our E3 2020 confirmed press conference schedule for more information.

One notable absence from E3 2020 is producer Geoff Keighley, who is also responsible for The Game Awards. Keighley shared that he wouldn't be participating in the show on February 12, adding that he did not "feel comfortable participating given what [he knows] about the show" so far.

Alongside PlayStation, Electronic Arts has largely abandoned E3 this console generation in favor of its own EA Play events. As its name is absent from the ESA's materials, it will likely be holding its own event again this June. E3 runs from June 9-11.

nintendo probably do a "e3 2020 direct", but some demos, might be on the e3 show floor for their upcoming games.

I’m assuming this means Nintendo will be doing its direct stream “Treehouse” thing as opposed to taking to the center stage like Microsoft.

If Nintendo did decide to go the later route I think it would really help bring a bit more excitement to E3 considering all the negative press it has been getting as of late thanks to Sony’s absence.

More than anything this year from Nintendo I’m hoping we have more than a tease from the new Metroid game. And no, words displayed on the screen or a quick 2 second trailer won’t cut it.

While I don’t think Nintendo will “take the show” considering Microsoft is revealing new next gen hardware they still have a really solid opportunity to capitalize on Sony’s absence.
