Nintendo Turns Mario Back Into A Plumber

That was a scary couple'a months.

After a brief and confounding hiatus, Mario is back to being a plumber again. His official biography on the Japanese Nintendo site has been changed to reflect that he is, in fact, a plumber by trade.

In September, fans noticed that the bio said he "seems to have worked as a plumber a long time ago." This was presented in the context of noting Mario's Homer-Simpson-like revolving carousel of jobs, but it still implied that he had quit the plumbing profession altogether.

The newly updated bio, via Nintendo Everything, says, "His occupation is plumber. However, his activity is not confined to that area." The revision shows Nintendo is still making sure we know Mario is a real Renaissance man, but in a less jarring way than giving up his historical origins altogether. A recent update to Mario Odyssey has introduced a variety of new outfits like musician and knight. So suffice to say his interests are varied.

Still, only licensed plumbers are allowed to enter giant green pipes and depose reptilian monarchs. It's a union thing.
