Nintendo Takes Proactive Step With New Passkey Support For Accounts
Sign in with a fingerprint or facial recognition instead of some long password about Waluigi.
There's a new way to sign into your Nintendo Account. The company now supports passkeys for logging in as "an additional layer of security."
The Nintendo customer support website reveals this new log-in functionality for passkeys. If you're unfamiliar, passkeys basically mean you can sign into a Nintendo Account with a fingerprint or facial recognition instead of a username and passcode. As such, it's tougher for someone to hack into your account.
Nintendo states that up to 10 passkeys can be utilized on an account. The following devices are supported by the company:
- iPhone with iOS 16 or newer
- iPad with iPadOS 16 or newer
- Mac computer with macOS 13 or newer
- Android devices with Android OS 9 or newer
Your Nintendo Account is where your digital library lives, along with memberships like Nintendo Switch Online. F-Zero 99 recently launched for Switch Online subscribers as a bonus, featuring tracks from the SNES original. But this time, you're racing against 98 other people in a battle royale.
Earlier this month, Nintendo Switch Online brought three games to the US for the first time ever. This basic tier of the service ($20 annually) offers access to NES, SNES, and Game Boy games, while Expansion Pack members ($50 a year) also get access to titles from Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advance, and Sega Genesis.
