Nintendo Switch Will Be Available Again At GameStop Soon

Time to hound your local store.

Retailer GameStop will have Nintendo Switch units available for sale "as early as Wednesday, March 22," so if you've been after one but have been affected by the stock shortages, this may be the opportunity you've been waiting for.

GameStop has advised customers to "check their stores first for availability" and noted that it will only have "individual" units available, suggesting bundles with games may not be offered.

"GameStop continues to see strong demand from customers who are looking to purchase the Nintendo Switch system," its senior director of merchandising said in a press release. "We are meeting this demand by securing additional systems as fast as we can to ensure customers are able to purchase this innovative gaming technology.

"The customer enthusiasm and response we have seen so far has been incredible as we continue to sell through our supply of systems. We strongly suggest any customer who is still looking to purchase a Nintendo Switch, visit one of our stores as soon as they can. This new allotment will go fast."

A GameStop representative told us customers "cannot reserve units in advance" due to "the limited amount GameStop has received."

Demand for the Switch has been high and Nintendo is reportedly doubling the amount of units produced to meet this. "People briefed on the plans" have said that although Nintendo initially planned to make 8 million consoles before the end of March 2018, this has now been increased to 16 million.

Nintendo previously stated that the Switch is the fastest-selling Nintendo console ever in the Americas, Europe, and Australia. Another report said 1.5 million Switch units were sold in the device's first week on the market, which means it has met Nintendo's first-month expectations of 2 million sales already.

Hopefully they fix some of the problems regarding hardware. No one should buy a console and have to go through and I understand defects, but still there are some issues that are just dumb.

Hope Nintendo takes after the PS4 Pro, Scorpio, and their own New 3DS and releases an improved Switch with more graphics power at some point; it's unfortunate that most Switch games appear to struggle to run at 30fps.

Do that, and also fix the Joy-Con connection and dock scratching issues, and make the Joy-Cons larger to accommodate adult-size hands, and I'll probably get one.

@Spartan_418: they could just release a dock with an upgraded GPU as 720p is the handhelds native resolution. I could see this happening, but Nintendo doesn't really care much about that kind of thing.

@Mommas_b_o_y: Thats the dumbest thing I read all week its literally scientifically impossible.

The dock is nothing but a 5 dollar plastic charging station idiots buy for 90. You could put the NASA supercomputer in there and there would be no way to put the power into the switch there is no possibility to interface.

@edinko: no it's not, it wouldn't be cheap, but you could add a GPU to the dock and run it mainly from the GPU. There's already docks that you can put an external video card to help power your laptop. If you don't understand that I'd suggest looking into computer science classes.

@Mommas_b_o_y: and niether should you... Once you get to experience BOTW in all its glory on the morning commute. You realize why all these "issues" about power really don't matter if you are able to experience a great game whenever and wherever you want.

@si2k78: Certainly won't deny that BOTW is a great looking game, but you also can't deny that hitches and freezes, when the hardware can't keep up, can detract from an experience.

@Spartan_418: Have you even played it?It doesn't hitch to the point where it can be destructing, because it hardly hitches at all.

@si2k78: No, I haven't tried it, but there are examples like in the video at the top of -this article- where at about 2:40, Zelda shows hitching/stuttering issues.

Most Switch reviews mention that playing in docked mode involves performance issues that aren't present in tablet mode.

You can make assertions like "power doesn't matter", "hitching isn't distracting", etc, but that gets into subjective territory. What doesn't bother you might still bother someone else, and vice versa.

@Spartan_418: play the game, then let me know how much it bugs you. Power does matter, but power doesn't make up for bad games.

@Mommas_b_o_y: Not sure if that's technically possible, since the dock doesn't include any extra graphics hardware, it just increases the tablet's power draw and clock speeds.

@jinzo9988: obviously the "anyone" is hyperbole, but the fact that so many are up for resale in the obvious places right this second indicates a lot of the sales aren't to people actually playing them.

I would guess that most of Gamestop's Switch inventory was sold to store employees. Who else actually shops there?

I went to GameStop the other day along with other places as I was out, and they told me Nintendo told them that they wouldn't put any out until May, and they tried to sell me a bundle worth 600 dollars that will be available in April. Ha, nope. I'll wait.

If I want a Switch, I'd buy it from Amazon or B&H. But then again, I don't want to spend $360 to play 1 game, no game is worth that much.

@IanNottinghamX: okay no console has a the perfect launch titles. But that doesnt excuse the very sad number of games the switch had. Like a total of 5. At least the xb1 and ps4 had something for everyone. Lol and maybe we all share the same thought about this lol stop parroting. Get off the internet

@restatbonfire: I remember thinking the Ps4 and Xb1(especially the Xb1) launch line up was a bunch of stinkers. Cmon Ryse son of rome, Knack, Killzone etc? Those werent game of the year material much less special. I even remember anticipating Infamous Second Son and that was a disappointment for me being honest here.

They'll probably make you buy $200 worth of garbage to go along with it. Why isn't Nintendo increasing NES classic stock?

Better than those "bundles" you're forced to get if you want the system and don't want to pay scalpers' prices. Though these bundles are the retailers version of scalping.

Got ours on Sunday the 5th at Target. Here's my advice how to do it...

Target gets new shipments in Saturday night, so swing by Friday or Saturday to ask a few people in the gaming section if they expect any. If so, just swing by your local Target at about 7:30-7:45 am Sunday, and be ready to grab one of the 10 or so units they'll have.

Word to the wise, pick up a charging controller while you are there. It costs $29.99, but the controller 'frame' that makes the two joy-cons into a controller doesn't have a way to charge them. Or pick up a pro controller, if they have them.

If you don't buy the charging controller 'frame' with USB, or buy the pro controller, then the only way to charge the joy-cons is to hook them to the Switch itself (it charges them even while playing with the Switch, tethered or un-tethered from the TV, btw).

charging joypad is not necessary. just hook them onto the switch when not playing. Each full charge battery can last a long time.

I bought 3 (2 GS and one Amazon)....did the right thing and sold 2 cheap to local gamers for 400 each on launch day..knew the aftermarket would be sketchy and short winded.....even on ebay most are selling for 425 to 475.....so I helped my purchase of one...which, BTW, I am enjoying the hell out of....

@fastharrydotcom: How is buying 3 and selling 2 for $100 more than what you paid for it "the right thing"? Because you're fleecing people for $25 less than other scalpers? ROFL!

The right thing to do would be to buy one for yourself and leave the other 2 for people to buy in the store without having to pay $100 more.

But hey, whatever you have to tell yourself I guess...

@aross2004: considering both people thanked me for selling at a price cheaper than anyone had on CL in my area and for treating them nice, holding the system for them on their word they wanted it and providing each person with a receipt, I think that qualifies as the right thing.....If other people wanted the system they should have been aware enough to get up and order it on Jan 13th.....

@aross2004: right...so EVERYONE on the planet that puts effort in to make money by buying low and selling high, (for example, tickets on stubhub, reselling on EBAY) is wrong.....including Gamestop for forcing you to take a bundle to buy a console...

Thats why all of you will be in your moms basement..and I will continue to use the free enterprise system that made this country great......

@fastharrydotcom: Nice try. I'm a Senior QA Engineer in the IT department in a very large coorporation here in Colorado. I own my own home, not living in a basement here.

Actually, I totally understand the resell/scalper market. I think it sucks, but don't hold it against people.

However, when you try to act like you did someone a favor by scalping, that burns my ass.

If you're gonna do it, at least own that shit and don't try to play it off like it's a public service or something.

@aross2004: I did nothing illegal...therefore I was not scalping. What I did do was show initiative, buy low and sell for a little profit. What I did right was stick to my word and sell for my listed price and kept my word to the 2 buyers interested despite the fact that I had better offers the days leading up to day one. I was thanked by my buyers for a great experience and have been in touch with since then to make sure their switches are running ok.

If that bothers you, so be it.
