Nintendo Switch Specs Confirmed

720p screen, up to six hours of battery life, and expandable storage confirmed.

Nintendo has officially confirmed more tech specs for its upcoming Switch console. The Switch will use a 6.2-inch 1280x720 resolution multi-touch capacitive screen.

The console will also use 32GB of internal storage, which you can expand with a microSDXC card. The game cartridges are called “game cards” and you drop them in from the top of the Switch.

The Switch will have two speakers at the bottom and a 3.5mm headphone jack at the top.

In terms of battery life, Nintendo asserts that the Switch can last over six hours, but will vary depending on the game and usage conditions. The company says that users should be able to get roughly three hours out of the Switch while playing The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The Switch will use a USB-C charging port, which is located at the bottom of the unit.

As revealed in October, the Switch will use an Nvidia Tegra-based system-on-a-chip (SOC) for its processor.

The Switch will retail for $299.99 and will launch on March 3. For more information on the console, click here.

ok we know it supports wifi but lets be honest. what level wifi do they support? because the 5g wifi which will get you speeds in the 100s but is only supported by a few new devices. and we know the 3ds and new 3ds wifi tech is old as sh-t.

Rip Nintendo Switch -2018-

Overpriced In every Way.

Over Priced $69 Pro Joystick that should be packed in with the console

NON HD Resolution Touch Screen . Come on Nintendo its 2017 not 2013

Ugly Tiny Joystick made for Midgets

Barely any cool games on launch day.

Nintendo focusing 25 minutes of their presentation on motion controls that no one wants or cares about.

32gigs of space, no in game bundle and no real joystick, just those silly tiny midget controllers that they were forced to include.

and to add more insult, Paid Gaming Service that will probably be required for the majority of it's future big game titles.

After taxes, 1 single $60 Game and 1 single Pro Joystick with 1 month paid service, your looking at a console that will cost you nearly 500$ American at launch, or 600$ plus Canadian if you're a Canadian. Sorry Nintendo, I'd rather get a xbox1 and a ps4 for that price.

Its a smartphone without the phone. Take out the phone network capacity you slash the price to $300. Which is still steep compared to older phones with 720p resolution.

Okay so if the switch is some kind of hand tablet thing, why does it keep getting referred to as a console? Also why is it $300? That's what the xbone and PS4's go for now I believe and their tech is certainly better than what's in the switch. I mean I mainly don't intend on getting one b/c literally the only game nintendo makes that I ever want to play is Zelda and that's no different this generation. Even if I was interested in more than just Zelda though $300 for that particular "console" still seems over priced.

@externalpower43 a 2 year old tablet with silly midget joysticks and overpriced peripherals. 1 game, 1 pro joystick and the console/Tablet will cost nearly $500 after taxes. That pro Joystick and 1 free game should come with the console for $300 since the console specs are weak and dated. The games are 60$+ The Pro joystick is $60+ and the console/Tablet is 300$ and that's just in America, in Canada, we're looking at almost 600$ with 1 extra game and 1 pro joystick after taxes. ( No Bundled Free Games )

Admittedly I haven't read every bit of info on the Switch. Can anyone tell me if any of these questions been answered yet:

- Does Switch offer ANY sort of backward compatibility (DS/Wii/Wii U/Virtual Console)?

- Can multiple consoles share content like most other game platforms? (I can play my digital Xbox and PS games on more than one console...even on a friend's system when logged in with my username. I can load an Apple iOS game on up to 10 iPhones and iPads in my household.)

- I've read reports that games like Skyrim and FIFA may be ports of the 360/PS3 edition. True or false? Regardless, how will performance of Multiplatform games compare to other current gen systems?

- How much will their online service cost and is it really true that the "free" games will only be one month rentals?

- Will the system support non-gaming apps making it a potential tablet replacement? Will it have web browser, Netflix, Pandora, YouTube, ESPN, etc.? Will developers be allowed to easily publish non-gaming apps, including free ones?

- Will the Switch have any sort of Achievement / Trophy system? (Not a deal-breaker but come on...it's 2017.)

With all due respect for what Nintendo has meant to the industry, they have done an extremely poor job in keeping pace with current industry leaders. While Xbox, PS, Steam and others have built rich online game store and multiplayer infrastructure, Nintendo muddled along with their archaic framework reminiscent of the original Xbox circa 2002. Personally, I will NEVER commit to another one of their products without truly knowing what I'm getting into.

@tjkraz: - no only virtual console games will work.

-they haven't said but I cant see that happening they haven't offered that yet

-it's just been called skyrim so I'm guessing it's the PS3 version, iv heard FIFA is the PS3 with updated teams

-they haven't given a price for online but i sounds a joke, you get to rent a nes or snes game of there choice for just that month, so it better be cheap or that will fail

-it will probably have Netflix I think the wii u did, it certainly won't be working like a tablet though, and don't expect to see apps, I'm sure you will be able to get nintendos apps though

-they've not talked about thophys

Basically I see this thing going the way of the wii u, hardcore Nintendo fans buying at launch. I would be wary, if they drop the price and go the way of the 3ds then sales will probably increase, but 3rd party support seems poor and it looks like the usual story of about 3 decent 1st party games every year or so. Zelda is pretty much exactly the same as the wii u version, it runs at 900p over the wii u's 720 and that's it

@tjkraz: I'd like to know more how hardware compares to other systems, performance wise.

I doubt it can be on same level with PS4 and X1. I would be pleasantly surprised to see it as capable as Wii U, being portable, with more limited thermals and requirement to run on battery power. But maybe?

So, Skyrim... if they do it lazy, x360 port. If they put real effort, maybe improved - remastered? - X360 port; but still not as good (visually) as X1/PS4 ports.

@tjkraz: I can tell you right now that it's not backwards compatible. With regards to Skyrim, I'd have to say it's going to be an inferior port by default since it won't have mod support and you NEED unofficial patches for Bethesda games.

Looks like a square deal to me. If they port some other Wii-U games like MARIO, Bayonetta 2, and Smash I'll be on board.

Newer hands on impressions on the Wii u 2 just announced: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arHNcSMXaBk

Cannot wait to play Zelda, looks better then ps3, ps4 coming out in 3 years

That lead should help Nintendo

(The n64 days of a powerhouse console.)

Good news if you live in the ultinate dimension then the Wii u 2 releases march 3rd.

If you do not the switch releases on march 3rd

Will have 2k resolution and a optional handheld mobile device to carry out to work completely independent of the Wiiu2.

Rumour has it all Nintendo games will be released free with a subscription.

Nintendo has my vote, I'll buy one asap

Nintendo is being Nintendo, trying to be different. From that robot back in the 80s that just lifted some block and dropping it, the virtual boy, light gun, the power glove, wii controller are all somewhat innovative in this industry. Fact many gamers grew up playing Nintendo, but Nintendo never mature as the fan base got older is fine with me. If Nintendo wants the younger/kid market it is their business. Their 1st party collection of games/IP are really marketed toward younger audience: pokemon, mario etc.

Nintendo does understand lost of people/ kids play tablet game, they do know what they are doing.

@xophaser: kid brings Nintendo switch too school thinking he's going to be the new cool Kid in class. Minutes later, school bullies notice the kid with his new hardware. One would think the school bullies would have taken the N. Switch but Instead after looking it over the school bullies laugh at him for a few minutes than move on over to the kid with the real console.

Just being different saved this little kid from losing his new console. The story here is this, If you own a new Nintendo switch, the school bullies probably won't bother stealing it. They will laugh at you though.

Just disappointed about the lack of optical ports. To me, there's nothing to be excited about so far when it comes to the hardware, but the games do it for me, even though for launch there's an extreme lack of anything worth getting other than Zelda to me. I'm going to attempt to get it the first day because I know I'll get it at some point anyways, and I'd like to play Zelda on it instead of the Wii U. On one hand, I'm glad people aren't interested right now since that may help me get it at the store on the first day it's out, but I hope it catches on and gets some support in time. Lastly, who here plans on playing it undocked? I certainly don't ever.

switch this swtich that. Meanwhile no website mentions that theyve all individually recieved a old, dusty VHS tape with a VHS reader from Capcom for RE7 that could only be read/seen once and then the VHS broke as a promotional thing for RE7 whcih is coming out in a week almost day for day . But yeah, covering such game doesnt attract as many morons as posting 48385r728378278 74287 different click baits switch articles .

@gameroutlawzz: "Meanwhile no website mentions that theyve all individually recieved a old, dusty VHS tape"

Polygon did. Perhaps the lack of mentions elsewhere indicates a general sense that a PR package with contents that audience really wouldn't enjoy isn't, you know, newsworthy. At the media outlet I work at, we receive press kits all the time — cakes with photos and messages done in icing are a big thing now — but most go unheeded.

"they need to create 84293854293582 897 articles with the same thumbnail picture about stuff that could all be said in the same fng article"

Breaking them up into numerous smaller articles instead of one mammoth article makes it easier for the reader. It's why newspapers will write 4-5 articles about the local football team's game today instead of one big one. (It also makes it easier for the writers since they don't have to struggle to give a mammoth article a cohesive tone.)

God! I'm so conflicted about the Switch console. On one hand I love that Mario Odyssey trailer and Breath of the Wild game coming out and the idea of a two-in-one console/handheld gaming machine. On the other, I hate the specs of the machine itself, the price of accessories, the fact you need a smart phone for voice chat instead of a headset, and their online subscriptions fee (the fact there even is a fee is abysmal to me). I don't know what's going on with Nintendo anymore.

@AccursedGamer: No, they are focusing on the tablet part and not the machine as a whole. In some way it is like a 2in1 product being the tablet can operate independently outside of the dock.
