Now Playing: Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Let's Tame a Horse!

Another Legend of Zelda game might eventually come to Nintendo Switch after Breath of the Wild, says the series' producer, Eiji Aonuma.

In an interview with IGN, Aonuma said, "I haven't been able to fully use all of the new features of the [Switch] ... There could be the possibility of another Zelda on Nintendo Switch."

When asked about what a new Zelda game could do differently to build on Breath of the Wild, Aonuma replied, "I think the core element of Zelda gameplay kind of stays the same. There's the main character development as well as characters you meet along the way, and then you learn new things as the character develops.

"With that said I think we could keep all that, and then I do wonder how we can expand from here with that in mind."

Aonuma has previously said the next Zelda game could be multiplayer-focused. The most recent Zelda game, The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes, was also centered around multiplayer, though you could also play it with AI teammates.

Link and Zelda's latest adventure, Breath of the Wild, launches on March 3. The game's coming to both Nintendo Switch and Wii U--check out the differences between the two versions here.

For more on Breath of the Wild, watch the first 17 minutes of the game here, or take a look at our recent hand-on impressions.

Why do people want to play as Zelda all of a sudden? Where did this come from? And why? I hope we don't get to play as Zelda. Would feel weird and unnecessary. Get Hyrule Warriors or something if you want dumb fan service.

No kidding. Dumb article

Twilight Princess sequel, please.

I really could careless for a multiplayer Zelda. Can they just focus on the single player edition? Can we get the chance to play as Zelda to save Link? I am pretty sure she would have different game mechanics and wield the Master Sword. Maybe after she rescues Link, Link is the rightful hero who saves Hyrule and the other kingdoms from a form of Ganon and other bosses. Just my thought

I think they need to add a social component to the games where you have options to respond to characters that can alter the outcome rather than just gather information. I think that would make for more puzzles and a wider variety of gameplay for Link.

It's kind of depressing to hear him say maybe so much. Why not produce multiple Zelda games per console? The days of a new console every 3-4 years are over, so let's start focusing on the things nintendo does so well, Zelda, Metroid, etc. Produce more of what we want.

If they do another Zelda for switch it will probly borrow a lot of textures and models from breath of the wild, I don't mind that as long as it's good

But if it's an all new Zelda don't expect it until the end of the switchs life because they usually take around 5yrs of development

Don't make the next Zeldas priority multiplayer

Well Breath of the Wild was originally meant to be the Wii U's killer app, instead it became its swansong. It's true that Switch made had the better version of the two but yes I feel Switch need its own original Zelda, every Nintendo console does. Other than the Wind Waker remake, the Wii U had no original Zelda game if it wasn't for Breath of the Wild. Every Nintendo platform in existence has had its own original Zelda game (Zelda 1 & 2 for NES, A Link to the Past on SNES, Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask for N64, Wind Waker, Four Swords Adventure, and Twilight Princess for GameCube, Skyward Sword for Wii, Breath of the Wild for Wii U, Link's Awakening for Game Boy, the Oracle of Ages/Seasons for GBC, the Four Swords and Minish Cap for GBA, Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Track for DS, and A Link Between Worlds for 3DS), it would be the same for Switch as well.

2 Zelda games on a Nintendo console? Who would have thought!

Avatar image for westsiderz28

@lorikat: that's nothing new the n64 had 2 zeldas ocarina and majoras mask

Avatar image for rodoxthedark

Shouldn't it read "Nintendo switch may get another game after zelda breath of the wild"

Avatar image for consolehaven

@rodoxthedark: That's pretty funny. Bravo!

I doubt it! Nintendo has like two programers.

How many games are left to remaster...there is your answer on the next Switch Zelda game...

Note to self: Man I need to change coffee or something getting really grumpy and salty here recently in my comments....sigh

Avatar image for westsiderz28

@uncle5555: they could remaster skyward sword,

Avatar image for catsimboy

It would be nice to have a Zelda that isn't trapped between two consoles (ignoring Skyward Sword because it was motion control garbage). But multiplayer focused? That idea can suck my octoroks.

Avatar image for consolehaven

@catsimboy: Why ignore Skyward sword? The control scheme may have turned you off, but it was a full fledged Zelda game. I didn't like the overworld is a dungeon approach, personally but there was a lot to like.

In other news, water is wet.

Avatar image for lebanese_boy

@hoard_moard: I don't believe you

Avatar image for Terradrius

I mean... duh? The N64 had Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, Gamecube had Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, Wii had Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword. Breath of the Wild will be the first original Zelda game on the Wii U (not counting Hyrule Warriors), but even it had the remakes of Wind Waker and Twilight Princess. So it seems pretty obvious that there's a good chance there will be another main Zelda title on the Switch.

In what? 5 years? Or just another port?

Avatar image for soliaired50

Somehow I highly doubt it and that it'll just be delayed again like BotW for the next system.

Avatar image for sakaixx

Skyward sword seems to be a remaster waiting to happens. Sucks cause that is one mediocre game.

Avatar image for darksouls

@sakaixx: Very true. I was definitely not a big fan of that one.

Avatar image for Jag-T1000

Maybe when their next system releases.

Avatar image for xolivierx

This one was supposed to be released years ago.

If the Switch is getting a second Zelda game, it will probably be a REMAKE of an already existing Zelda, or some half-baked Zelda game à la 3DS

I'll never understand why developers feel the need to try and force a series that has built it's popularity around a fantastic single player experience into being multiplayer.

I'd have absolutely zero interest in a multiplayer focused Zelda game.

Avatar image for PrpleTrtleBuBum

@BeefoTheBold: This could easily be translated into a decent MMO, or just multiplayer hack'n slash type of adventure

Is a good multiplayer Zelda game somehow inferior to pretty much the same game without the Zelda tag? Mario was know for the jumping but his driving and board games work well. Metroid had the foundations for a pretty good multiplayer fps.

But sure that Zelda should be called something like Zelda: The Spinoff

Avatar image for BeefoTheBold

Don't mistake me. I'm not saying that they couldn't make a good multiplayer focused Zelda game.

But for a lot of people, the singleplayer experience is what they enjoy most about gaming. I've never understood the line of thinking that taking a game series that has made it's popularity around singleplayer arbitrarily being converted to being multiplayer focused.

Even if it works and you get a very good multiplayer game, for a lot of people they'll lose interest because it isn't the type of gameplay that attracted them to the IP in the first place.

Which brings me back to that I personally would have no interest in a MP focused Zelda game because it isn't what I like about the franchise.

Metroid Foundation is another great example. Most people wanted another Metroid Prime game.

Avatar image for consolehaven

Of course it's possible. The same happened with the Wii with two main Zeldas launching on that system. What wouldn't be possible are two main Zeldas built from the ground up for the switch releasing in its cycle.

Avatar image for girlusocrazy

Prediction: It will release at the end of ther Switch's life and be a launch title for the next system

Avatar image for nintendians

remake ocarina of time, with graphics that look like final fantasy vii remake-like (the one that coming to ps4) then i buy it on "switch" with full price. but a totally new one but for "switch" only, i still get it.

Avatar image for ilikeecchi

This is what ive been saying for a long time "where will it go from here?" this games is so big and different from the others that im not sure theyll be able to top it

Avatar image for consolehaven

@ilikeecchi: Saying it's not possible means this is the penultimate in creativity. Story and gameplay can be completely different. The question really is, should they stick to open world Zelda? Sales will determine that. The game has to sell 3 million just to break even!!

Avatar image for ilikeecchi

@consolehaven: i didnt say it wasn't possible but i seriously doubt they will be able to make another zelda game during the switches lifetime that is different and new from the rest like this one is. Personally I hope they dont stick to open world because it seems like it will take forever for the average player (me) to fully beat the game, the reason why this is an issue to me is because i will be sharing this game with 3 other people and if i go left i might have to see one of them go right and i really dont want any spoilers.

Avatar image for consolehaven

@ilikeecchi: Yeah. Zelda might take longer than TP to finish. It's funny because after playing, say, FFXIII, I thought, "This game is so linear" and felt negative towards it. But went back and played the FFVII HD, one of my all time favorites, and was struck by how linear the dungeons and cities were, and it was just the overworld map that gave it an open world feel. Then you take a game like Skyrim, or Witcher 3 and gawk a little at the vastness of the world and quickly get lost and meander aimlessly ithrough environments that rarely change. So, I guess part of us apprecaite games that feel epic, and that gets harder to find as games evolve and expectations change. I'm in favor of the death of the open world in exchange for epic any day.

Avatar image for ilikeecchi

i guarantee it will just be an HD version of skyward sword. The removable Switch side thingies both have motion control and have more buttons than the wii mote so its clear they will be making it.

And the sky is blue.

Avatar image for Quique85

if it is going to be MP focused at least do it like 4sword adv. TriForce Warriors was mediocre at best. tried to like it but it never synced. 4Swords Adv. was pretty good as a single and mp experience.

Avatar image for isariamkia

I need another Zelda with the graphical style of Twilight Princess and with more modern technology

Avatar image for wolfpup7

"May"? It's almost as certain as the sun rising. It's even MORE certain now since Switch replaces both 3DS and Wii U.

Nintendo would have to go bankrupt or something for their not to be more Zelda games on Switch.

Now where the frak is Metroid?!? (And I want a REAL Kid Icarus sequel too :-)

Avatar image for consolehaven

@wolfpup7: Expect to find out at E3.

Avatar image for Acillatem1993

It's a possibility? lol

Avatar image for balders74

looks like just text and no voice over actors again in Zelda looking at demos. damn even day of tentacle had voice actors Nintendo so old £60 for a game with half features missing.

Avatar image for inkman66

Well, I wasn't gonna buy a Switch because of the weak launch titles, the $300 price tag that is the same of other more powerful machines WITH a pack in game, the monthly fee subscription for a sub par online experience, the lack of great games until months and months down the road, the same Nintendo launch "shortage" BS they pull with every launch......but that they say there MIGHT be another Zelda game.........I'M IN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Avatar image for chiefwiggum16

This game looks like a cartoony shitty version of The Witcher. They should have just left it with the normal formula, but added in all these extra gameplay features.
