Nintendo Switch Getting Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate This Summer

Monster Hunter XX makes its way out of Japan in August.

Capcom is bringing the Nintendo Switch version of Monster Hunter XX to the West this summer. Retitled Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, the online action RPG will launch exclusively for Switch in North America and Europe on August 28.

Generations Ultimate is an expanded version of the series' last mainline 3DS installment, Monster Hunter Generations. It features additional content, including two new Hunting Styles (Alchemy and Valor), an additional Elder Dragon, and a new endgame boss. Players will also be able to embark on "G Rank" quests, which Capcom says feature "even more formidable versions of familiar foes."

Now Playing: Nintendo Switch Gets Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate This Summer - GS News Update

Those who've purchased Monster Hunter Generations on 3DS will be able to transfer their save data to Generations Ultimate on Switch and continue playing with their same hunters. The game also allows players to use touch screen inputs for Hunter Arts--powerful attacks that can be unleashed after filling up your Arts Gauge--and supports four-player local and online multiplayer.

Up until now, Monster Hunter XX has only been available in Japan. The game first launched for 3DS last March and was ported to Switch in August. The Switch version proved to be a big success for Capcom, but at the time the publisher said it had "no plans" to bring the game to other regions.

Like previous Monster Hunter games, the Japanese version of XX received special cross-promotional gear following its launch. Most notably, Capcom released a set of armor based on Link's Champion's Tunic from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Players could also craft a Korok costume for their Palico.

The most recent game in the series, Monster Hunter World, launched for PS4 and Xbox One back in January, with a PC release still to follow sometime this fall. Capcom acknowledged that fans had been asking for a Switch version of Monster Hunter World, but said that a port would be "difficult."

Good thing i hated generations them, but they could also do a 3DS ver since i still own a nintendo 3ds, i still have no reason to buy a switch.

But yes MHW was AMAZING but....it lacks a shit ton of content and it has artificial lenght, it stop throwing new and exciting monster at the 60 or 90 hour ( it depends on how good you are or fucking RNG), sure with events and trophy hunting you get 300 hours but i got those same 300 hour by doing G RANK in MH3U and 4U and more, farming G weapons, G Armor and shit and those end game bosses like Apex rajang ( HELL!!!!) or The Brachydios sup spcies that ONE SHOT no matter how much def you have, or Fatalis sub species.

In generation i didnt like all the flashy stuff or the new effect, i am sorry they just seem outplace for me, but anyway Nintendo Fans ENJOY YOUR SUPERIOR CONTENT WISE MONSTER HUNTER GAME, BECAUSE WORLD is not that big of a deal anyway, except on graphic and gameplay but not in content.

The BOTH BALANCE EACH OTHER or maybe you could OWN BOTH CONSOLE AND GAMES but who has time and money for both at the same time?

@CRAPCOM1926:

"but i got those same 300 hour by doing G RANK in MH3U and 4U and more, farming G weapons, G Armor and shit and those end game bosses like Apex rajang"

Comparing complete editions to the first version of Generation 5 (World) is obtuse. If you prefer the G/U versions? you could have held off MH:W till its next version.

Which based on updates will likely also simply be an expansion pack.

Compare World to vanilla 3, 4 or X and you maybe able to have at least a more realistic concept of content control.

World is great and will get better (hopefully) however it will simply not have the volume of monsters from previous games, due to the new engine and overall complexity for each added monster. You can only hope they add your favorites at this point in time.

I'm actually more excited for this than I was for World. Despite some minor archaisms and slightly rougher graphics, Generations was a much better MH game than World, and while I'm sure World will grow in time and some Ultimate version will drop eventually, MHGU will do a much better job of scratching my need to hunt in the meantime.

Hmm, I at least want a massive graphic upgrade. It's unfortunate we are not getting MHW but a 3DS game visually is so low for a Switch version > < I know it's not all about graphics, but if it's just a lazy port will get pretty annoyed

Cannot go back to old style monster hunter anymore due to MHW. The loading screen in thw old games kills me. Also the menu in old mh game is dated as fuk, usual MH cluttered menu but if you been blessed with the more accessible MHW it really hard to play this game. Imported the japanese ver so yeah.

I do am surprised this game still exclusive tho. Thought MHW success make capcom learn there ia no reason for exclusives.

@sakaixx: The exclusivity is likely due to licensing to Nintendo.

@Fernin-Ker: too bad too. Since mhw is many fan first MH games you'd think capcom understand to strike where the market is. Oh well cant be playing too much mh anyway, need to cool down for next big expansion to world.

First we got the WiiU library rehashed on the Switch. Now they moving to rehash 3DS games. I bet they will try and sell this for 59.99 also.

No way I'm heading back to a loading screen every 20 steps in MH. Let me know when they make an actual Switch MH.

@RSM-HQ: and we don't even need to wonder. Go and download the Switch NHXX demo from the Japanese eShop. It is awful - I literally did 4 loading screens just to get to the hunting zone. Just like before, they didn't modernized anything.

And it is 59.99! Make a new moder MH for the Switch.

@agramonte: I already made my mistake when I bought XX on 3DS and sunk over one hundred hours being a loyal Monster Hunter fan with a group of friends.

I paid my dues. Now I simply spread the word that this is a bad MH game compared what you can get elsewhere.

@rot05487: Why wouldn't you? It's not an mmo.

Although the hardest quests are probably still scaled for parties of 4 players. In MHW all quests scale depending on whether you're playing solo or with others.

I've got XX and would not consider it a good Monster Hunter game. My entire group doesn't even consider the X series worth a MH fans time.

If you have a 3DS? grab 4G,

PS4/P.C.(later on)/ X1? grab World.

About bloody time! Cannot wait for this. Finaly some challenge again.

Monster Hunter World was great while it lasted, but it will take at least another generation to get the monster roster up to where it needs to be, and the end game was some terrible amalgamation of a 'live service' without any meaningful content to back it up, not to mention the absolute joke levels of difficulty.

Will be sinking ten times the playtime of World easily into this game, can't wait to jump back into the insanity of aerial dual blades again. G-rank here I come.

@Atzenkiller:

What? I have played the original Generations and I will also be getting the Ultimate version of World when it releases, I don't get your point?

You know it's not an 'either or' situation right, you can like and own different systems and games for different reasons, which is exactly what I intend to do.

I love World, I don't love it's difficulty or content, I love classic MH I also have negatives there but I'm too excited about XX on my Switch to worry about those right now.

@risingdawn: Because you've been mainly complaining about the lack of content and difficulty due to no G rank, which the standard version of Generations didn't have either.

Which is why I am excited for XX, for the extra content and G-Rank that I was disappointed was missing with Gen. In the exact same way I would be mega excited for a World U release, extra content and G-Rank would solve my main gripes with that game.

@og_gamerzzz: Why would I be mad at Nintendo? That doesn't even make sense. I have choices. If I don't like Nintendo's products, I won't buy them. There's no need for anger. It's an emotion that doesn't even make sense in this context. For example, I don't care for the Kardashians, so I don't watch their shows. But I'm not mad at them.

I really like the Switch. I wish it was a little more powerful and 1080 resolution, but otherwise, I really like it. Nintendo owners know exactly what the hardware can and cannot do. It's not like the wool was pulled over our eyes and we're forced to buy a product that doesn't live up to our expectations. Is this starting to sink in?

Thanks for living up to the gamer stereotype of low emotional intelligence.

You dont know what your talking about and your narrow minded gaming vision shows through.

With your reasoning all Nintendo products are "for kids" then including the snes?

Sounds to me like your just trolling, you know.....with respect !

@og_gamerzzz: Yes, I'm talking about emotional intelligence. And you're proving it for me. When you can't outsmart my argument you resort to name calling.

"Modern tech should have modern features" like "video and internet". Funny, I already have devices that do that. I really don't need another Netflix machine.

Let's also talk about economics for a bit. You want a tablet with controllers that's as powerful as today's latest Android tablets? Your looking at a device north of $1000 for that. And guess what, nobody wants that price point! Look at the Razer Edge Pro. Probably does exactly what you're talking about and you can find it on Amazon for $1300 and it's out of stock on Newegg, so I'm thinking it hasn't been all that successful. So that's why Nintendo doesn't give you "modern tech" for $299. Does this help?

As for the "Switch is for kids" argument, true, it features a lot of games for younger people. But I grew up in the NES era so Mario and Zelda have always been fun games to me. Furthermore, the Switch is getting games like Skyrim, Wolfenstein, and Dark Souls. So believe it or not, an adult can enjoy the Switch.

And finally, "go tell your mommy to give you more juice". Yeah, I'm pushing 40, so....no.

After a series of flops, I can understand why Nintendo is a little gun shy about releasing a higher powered mobile console. My hope is that the 3rd party support for the Switch will lead to the Switch 2 having more power.

Anyway, this has been fun. Take care.

@Atzenkiller: Who said that I was the exception? Do you really think that the majority of those that own a Switch were Nintendo fans that have been sitting around playing nothing but 3DS or old Wii games while the Wii U bombed out? The Switch isn't the casual gamer's machine the way the Wii was or the way the Wii U could have been. With a few exceptions, it's very much built around the "one player/one screen" set up and that generally doesn't suit casuals, and gamers that aren't casual typically don't sit out damn near an entire generation waiting for a better console from their preferred brand. Of the 16 people that I know that own a Switch, 4 of them don't own another console or gaming pc.
