Now Playing: Super Mario Maker 2, Link's Awakening, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, And All The Big Nintendo Direct News - GS News Update

During the February 2019 Nintendo Direct (see all the news here), the company announced that Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice will be getting a Switch release. The acclaimed action game, which explores mental illness in a Norse mythology setting, has a release window of Spring 2019.

Nintendo didn't provide many details about the port during the presentation. Hellblade was originally a PlayStation 4 console exclusive (that was also available on PC), and it came to Xbox One in April 2018.

GameSpot awarded it an 8/10 in our Hellblade review, calling it "a spellbinding and sympathetic game about loss and redemption." It was also one of GameSpot's top 10 games of 2017.

Stay tuned for more news from the Nintendo Direct, which began with the announcement of Super Mario Maker 2 for Switch. We also learned a lot more about Fire Emblem: Three Houses, including a release date.

Doesn't MS own this studio now? I'm surprised they're putting it on the Switch instead of the next project.

Wow Nintendo on a roll with their Switch !!! Whether the Switch can run this game is another thing. But the fact it's coming should be a good thing for Nintendo's faithful. Enjoy guys... the game is a beauty !

I didn't think about Hellblade on Nintendo Switch. Maybe this is the good news for Nintendo Switch players. I prefer play Hellblade on my PC.

@Marky360: Do you think your average Nintendard cares? Long as they brag about it, they'll even eat shit.

@Marky360: It runs at 5 FPS on lower than low, a miracle port!

As a video game, Hellblade is far from being even good.

@asnakeneverdies: Respect your opinion. But Hellblade was TOO GOOD. Played it on PC, loved the environments, the story telling elements etc.

@starjay009: I too enjoy those things, Starjay. It is the poorly executed gameplay component that compromises the experience. You know, the one factor that actually categorizes Hellblade. Video game simulations should be playgrounds for player expression, not developer expression.

@asnakeneverdies: As a video game, Hellblade was very, very good, elevated to great when played with quality headphones.

@zmanbarzel: I totally agree, fair enough its not for everybody (horses for courses), but you cant deny its a well crafted game, and yes, you gotta play it with Headset.

@zmanbarzel: Why would anyone harbor such notions regarding Hellblade? Outside of a profound misunderstanding of the medium, I'm not sure. I'm not saying that the effort cannot be enjoyed on account of its presentational component, mind you, but I believe lauding its achievements within the context of video games is improper and misguided.

It's your prerogative to disagree, Zman.

Great news for Switch users and great news for gamers all around.

Senua’s Sacrifice was definitely one of those memorable journeys of 2017 so I’m glad more eyes are getting a chance to give it a look.
