Nintendo has said one of its German executives was misquoted in an interview where he seemingly suggested Super Smash Bros. for Wii U would be released in spring 2014.

Nintendo Germany general manager Bernd Fakesch was quoted by German site Neckar-Chronik earlier this week. "We would like to clarify that the speculation about a Spring 2014 launch date for Super Smash Bros. on Wii U was the result of a misquotation in an interview," said a Nintendo representative to GameSpot.

"The original article has since been rectified and we have no further announcements to make at this time." The page has now been updated to specify a release date of next year as opposed to spring 2014.

Nintendo has yet to reveal any footage from Super Smash Bros. on the Wii U outside of a video demonstration from E3 2013. Nintendo is developing the game in partnership with Namco Bandai's SoulCalibur studio.
