Nintendo Reveals Official Female Link, and She's Coming to Hyrule Warriors

Linkle is a terrible name.

Next up, we'll have male Zeldo in drag.

The proper way to handle this would have been to release a new Zelda game, have the character (Link) shrouded in a bit of mystery, and reveal at the end Link was female (ala Samus/Metroid). And for God's sakes - not named Linkle.

It's sad how so many people doesn't listen to what official sources say. Besides, she's not canon. She's for Hyrule Warriors only, and that's a spin-off.

This isn't a female version of link..... It's just another character that's suppose to represent a female that is like link. Her bio states her being a sister-like character towards link.

I'm not really against this, I'm just kind of disappointed by the way it's been handled. I would've liked to see a brand new Legend of Zelda with a female Link rather than just adding her on as a sort of side character in a spinoff Zelda title. I never really saw the need for Link to always be male, all of the different Links aren't actually the same person anyways.

Actually, now that I think about it, I would rather they add some character depth and coolness to Zelda rather than just gender swapping Link. I wouldn't even be against a major Zelda title featuring Zelda as the main character.

I think it's great. I only hope that she continues to be a playable character in future Zelda releases. If they're serious they should include her as an option in all upcoming Zelda games to solidify her as a true female version of Link. When I was playing on my Gameboy back in the 90's I always thought Link looked like he could go either way so I agree why some people are asking "why"? I'm just happy that developers are getting more diverse in giving players options to express themselves. It's neat, it doesn't hurt the franchise and for many it won't help it but it makes me like Legend of Zelda even more.

So will she rescue a prince named Zeldo?

The funniest thing here is that you people think Japan gives two shits about Western morals and Western societal issues. Nintendo doesn't know or care about the "feminism war" going on in English speaking forums. This character is completely typical for what Japan is used to. We can see that by the usage of the words "Imouto-teki" or, little sister like to describe her. Plus it's relatively common to have characters get their gender reversed in anime and other Japanese media.

Once again, the world does not revolve around Western social issues. Japan doesn't care about pleasing Western feminists or anyone else. We are essentially importing their culture when it comes to video games, it's foolish to think otherwise.
