The wait is over--Nintendo has released the first trailer showing the highly anticipated Super Mario Bros. Movie in action. We can finally stop talking about Mario's flat butt and talk more about what his face will look like on the big screen. The trailer for the Mario Bros. Movie was released on a livestream to coincide with its appearance at New York Comic-Con, and the Illumination film is expected to arrive on April 7, 2023.

The special Nintendo Direct aired on YouTube and was aired in a panel room at NYCC as well. Animation has almost wrapped up on the movie, then it's off to lighting. In the trailer, King Koopa (Jack Black) and his Koopa army attach those blue penguins we know and love from Mario 64. Of course, Mario (Chris Pratt) pops up as well, and he sounds exactly like Chris Pratt. You can check out the Super Mario Bros. Movie trailer below.

Now Playing: The Super Mario Bros. Movie Official Teaser Trailer

During the panel at NYCC, the cast was there, and Jack Black said he had large shoes to fill, voicing Bowser: "It was a lot of pressure because Bowser is known and loved by millions around the world, for years," Black said during the panel. "One of the greatest video game villains of all time. There's a lot of responsibility with a built in fandom like that--and with great responsibility comes great power, that's how they say that right?"

"I did go a little method. I did a lot of research for the role," Jack explained. "And really the only research you could do is to play all the games…so that's what I did. I did bring some of my heavy metal roots. Bowser is like a heavy metal rock star, a big strong and scary rock star. I did a little rockin. I think you might be surprised to learn that Bowser has a musical side."

Does this mean we're getting a Bowser musical number?

In addition to Chris Pratt as the voice of Mario, the movie features an all-star cast that includes Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike. Charles Martinet, who has historically portrayed Mario and Luigi in the video games since 1992, will have a cameo in an unknown role.

The Mario movie is expected to hit theaters on April 7, 2023. Pratt has said his Mario voice is "unlike anything you've ever heard."
