Having teased the tournament earlier in the month, all details surrounding the Smash Invitational Nintendo will host at E3 this year is now public. A total of 16 players, including Team Liquid’s full roster consisting of Daniel 'KDJ' Jung and Ken 'Ken' Hoang. as well as EG’s latest acquisition Kevin 'PPMD' Nanney, will be competing at the event along with several other famed competitors. What’s to note is that neither Joseph 'Mango' Marquez, Jason 'M2K' Zimmerman and Adam 'Armada' Lindgren will not be attending the event.

The Super Smash Bros Invitational will be broadcasted live on Twitch.tv in co-operation with Nintendo. The Japanese game's developer fell ill to an abundance of critisicm last year before the 2013 Evolution Fighting Game Series when Nintendo would not let the tournament organizer stream the event, as well as not giving any official support for the Smash franchise's competitive scene.

What Nintendo has also announced is a GameCube adapter for the WiiU, meaning that the classic controller will still be usable for any upcoming Smash title that will be featured on the WiiU.

Nintendo has also revealed the rules for the tournament and they lead as follows:

  • Single-elimination
  • Players will be locked to playing one single character throughout the tournament
  • Items unlocked in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd stage
  • Items disabled for the grand finals
  • Grand finals to be played on Battlefield
  • Players will only be playing one specific character throughout the tournament
  • Available characters: Little Mac, Zero Suit Samus, Bowser, Wii Fit Trainer, Marth, Mega-Man, Pit, Villager, Pikachu, Mario, Link, Kirby, Samus, Rosalin & Luma, Sonic, Donkey Kong, Greninja, Pikmin & Olimar, Zelda and Fox
