Nintendo Goes Video CD
After using technology that was a bit bigger and more expensive, Nintendo puts its games on CD for all to see.
No, Nintendo hasn't decided to bring out a CD attachment for the N64. Instead, Digital Video Systems Inc. has designed a new video engine to use the Video CD format for its point-of-sale kiosks. These will replace the current laser disc format, which is used in Nintendo's kiosks now. The use of the new format is much cheaper than using laser discs and outputs video of a higher quality than standard VHS.
Customers then can select video previews of up to 30 of Nintendo's games. The systems can be found at most Toys "R" Us stores and at other major retailers worldwide.
