Nintendo Drops Select Amiibo Prices

While the prices of some figures are soaring on the secondhand market, others are in decline at retail.

As supply continues to be a problem for certain Amiibo figures, Nintendo has quietly dropped the suggested retail prices of three of the most common.

Donkey Kong, Peach, and Yoshi--three members of the first wave of Amiibo figures from November--now cost $9.99, down from the standard $12.99 price, according to Nintendo's website. The company hasn't made any official announcement regarding the modest price drop, but it comes not long after the latest wave of figures was released, with more still to come--including several in March.

Earlier this month, Nintendo revealed the top 10 selling Amiibo figures for several markets around the globe. All three of the discounted characters made the top 10 in the United States and Canada, but this could at least in part be attributed to their wide availability. Other characters, like Marth and Villager, are only likely to be found being resold on sites like eBay.

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata recently spoke about the subject of rare Amiibo figures, saying extra shipments of hard-to-find figures are something it may deliver. "It is difficult for us to promise to continuously ship all of the Amiibo figures," he said. "We will, however, consider additional production in cases such as when an Amiibo figure sells out shortly after launch, an Amiibo is indispensable to play a certain game, and when we receive a lot of requests for an Amiibo figure from consumers and retailers."

More than 5.7 million Amiibo figures have been sold to-date.

Yoshi is one of the most common? I have not seen it anywhere, so I could have sworn he was a hard one to find. I am in Australia by the way.

Nintendo's ignorance and scalpers have completely ruined the amiibo experience for me. I don't think I'll ever get my hands on a Lucina, ZSS or Captain Falcon one...

<< LINK REMOVED >> I hear you. Something potentially awesome has been ruined for us. :(

I'm even more pissed about the whole Majora's Mask 3D Limited Edition debacle. I'm afraid I'm never going to get one unless I pay through the nose. T_T

You found something that is selling like wildfire, why in the world would you shoot yourself in the foot by not making more? You must not be hurting for profit that much.

I just got a Yoshi last week for only 10 bucks so I'm fine with this. HOPEFULLY now that that dock strike is done with we will FINALLY see those newer figures in stores more often.

Like they have been doing since the 80s, nintendo is once again creating false shortages. Sadly, I really don't think anyone is buying these things. I know hundreds of gamers, and nobody has a wii u.

<< LINK REMOVED >> They've already sold nearly 6 million figures in a little less than 3 months. And thats with all these "shortages." You don't need a WiiU to enjoy these figures, most people who buy them are treating them as collectables.

Skylanders and infinity have no supply issues. Figure it out Nintendo. Dont start something if you can keep up with demand. What good is ammibo support in my games if I can't find any of the ammibo characters to purchase

leave the toys for the kids, bullies.

I see so many people saying they can't find Amiibos.

I just pre-ordered them all. It's that easy to get an entire set.

    Avatar image for Trev9421

And yet everytime I've gone to pre-order ones I want, they've been out. Pre-orders open while I'm at work, they'll be gone when I'm off.

it's fun how nintendo does what they do best: Make toys even adults enjoy :)

I got my Toon Link and Sheik. Hell I found 3 more later on. Bought one of those 3 for a friend and my roommate bought the other. If I could get my hands on a Marth my Amiibos set would be complete for me.

All we want is a restriction to how many we can get, I mean the scalpers make it harder for collectors to get the amiibos we want.

I still cant find Peach, Fox and Samus anywhere

    Avatar image for Bread_or_Decide

<< LINK REMOVED >> Peach? Uhh dude

    Avatar image for dante9006

I can't stop finding Peach and Samus. I used to be able to find Fox but he revelry became more rare.

Meanwhile I have never, ever seen Shulk, Meta-Knight or DeDeDe here in any shop! Nintendo should get their act together soon. Some people are selling those figurines for insane prices on EBay (100 Euro for Shulk!!) and I can't shake the feeling that some people are buying them up en masse before release to make a profit afterwards. It's only Nintendo who's to blame for these ridiculous differences in the number of figurines made for certain characters.

    Avatar image for dante9006

I managed to order me a Shulk! Woo! Try checking GameStop website?

    Avatar image for GH05T-666

<< LINK REMOVED >> Shulk will be back for Xenoblade 3DS and Wii U Im sure of it. just be fast

    Avatar image for iandizion713

<< LINK REMOVED >> its to hard to do. places limit people to one per customer or one pre order per person and they sell out so fast they dont have time to got too another store to buy more. Nintendo has stated that they sold way more then expected, they will make other variants later, but until then we just have to wait or get lucky.

The variants also will help lower the prices on some of the hard to find characters, so them ebay people better get their money while they can, when more variants come, the value of said variants will drop.

I think you and Paul McCartny have something in common.

I don't understand the appeal of Amiibos, but whatever I guess.
