Nintendo today held another of its Nintendo Direct events, mostly detailing Wii U and 3DS announcements for Spring 2014, but with a few additional announcements for a time period beyond that. In this roundup we've sorted the information by platform.
Hyrule Warriors was announced for the Wii U, a mash-up of Zelda and the Dynasty Warriors series. Expect to see Link cut through massive hordes of monsters, although I doubt this new game will revolve around the Japanese novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms. A brief teaser trailer for the title was released.
NES Remix was unveiled for Wii U. A trailer for the game was shown, with NES Remix taking famous scenes from NES-era games and offering up a slight twist. Link was shown ascending the path in the original Donkey Kong, while a new take on Excitebike had players rely on a headlight to see the path ahead. The game is available to download now.
Dr. Luigi was also announced for the Wii U eShop. The latest take on the Dr. Mario formula will be released in on December 31 in the US and January 15, 2014, and will feature both touch and button-based modes, as well as a new mode that throws L-shaped capsules into the mix.
Finally, Super Mario Galaxy character Rosalina was shown as a fighter in the upcoming Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS--which definitely isn't coming out in Spring 2014--and was also featured in a new trailer for Mario Kart 8, which definitely is.
Sonic Lost World on the Wii U will be getting two new pieces of Nintendo-themed DLC, with a Yoshi's Island themed level now available on the Wii U eShop. The second level will be coming next year, with Nintendo hinting that it would be Zelda themed.
Wii Sports Club Golf has also been released today, joining the tennis and bowling modes already available on the game. Wii Sports Club either sells access to each sport individually, or lets players rent access for set periods of time. The base game will now be automatically downloaded to the console, provided users have enough storage space and have downloaded the most recent system update.
Yoshi's New Island will be coming to the 3DS in Spring 2014, with Takashi Tezuka--who was instrumental to the SNES original--on board for development.
New information was also released for Kirby Triple Deluxe. While the bulk of the game will be a new side-scrolling platformer, Nintendo announced two new additional modes for the game: Kirby Fighters, a Smash Bros.-esque brawler with four players on screen duking it out, and rhythm-based Dedede's Drum Dash. The game will be available sometime in 2014--Nintendo didn't specify a more precise date.
Pokemon X and Y players will be able to get legendary Pokemon Celebi for their Pokedex by using the Bank application, downloaded from the 3DS eShop, before September 2014.
3DS owners in North America will be able to download a demo of Bravely Default from January 2. The game, a new Square Enix RPG due for release on February 7 in the US, is already available in Japan and Europe.
Over in Europe, Nintendo also announced that customers who register a Nintendo Network ID or link to their existing Wii U ID will get a free download code for Super Mario. Bros Deluxe in February. Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney will also be released for 3DS on March 28 in Europe.
