Nintendo Direct Mini: The Biggest Announcements And How To Watch

Nintendo has released its July 2020 Direct presentation, and you can watch it here and catch up on all the news.

Rather than an event that features a mixture of Nintendo and third-party news, the latest Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase, as the name suggests, focused exclusively on third-party developers. The video debuted Monday morning, less than a day after being announced, and it brought news on new DLC for Zelda spin-off Cadence of Hyrule--including Majora's Mask-themed content--and a trailer and 2021 release window for Shin Megami Tensei V. You can watch the full Nintendo Direct Mini and check out our news recap below for a rundown on everything included in the eight-minute broadcast.

Nintendo Direct July News And Announcements

Shin Megami Tensei V

A new cinematic trailer for Shin Megami Tensei V was revealed, and developer confirmed Atlus that the game will launch for Nintendo Switch in 2021. Notably, it'll be a simultaneous worldwide release.

The Legend of Zelda: Cadence of Hyrule

New DLC for Cadence of Hyrule, the Zelda-themed spin-off and Crypt of the NecroDancer successor, is on the way. The first of this launches today, with more to come later this year. That includes a Majora's Mask-themed pack.

Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne HD Remaster

A remastered version of Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne was also confirmed during the Direct. There weren't many details shared, but it's coming in Spring 2021. It'll be available on both Switch and PS4.

WWE 2K Battlegrounds And Rogue Company

Also during the Nintendo Direct Mini, we saw a trailer for WWE 2K Battlegrounds, the arcade-style wrestling game coming later this year to Switch and other platforms, and Rogue Company. The latter is a third-person shooter that will feature both cross-platform and cross-play support with other versions of the game. More details on the game will be shared later today.

The Partner Showcase is a new series "focused on titles from our development and publishing partners." In the debut episode, Nintendo said it would share "a few updates" on Nintendo Switch games that have already been announced. Nintendo made that very clear upfront after a recent stream built up some big expectations. It also noted that more of these Partner Showcase streams will be coming later this year.

According to a report, Nintendo delayed its usual June summer presentation due to development complications caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. This event, which is not the Partner Showcase, is now expected to air "late in the summer."

This event follows the Treehouse Live July 2020 stream that provided new details on Paper Mario: The Origami King and the new game Bakugan: Champions of Vestroia. Prior to the stream taking place, Nintendo stated that Bakugan developer WayForward was working on a new franchise it hadn't touched before--and given its reveal during a Nintendo event, it was assumed to be a Nintendo IP. As expectations grew for a new entry in something like the Metroid franchise, Nintendo had to clarify that it was a third-party property, and not a Nintendo one.
