Nintendo Channelling Europe

Latest arm of the Wii Shop Channel will deal out information on games, along with demos for upcoming DS games.

A new channel has been added for Wii users in Europe today: the Nintendo Channel. According to Nintendo, it will give out info on "past, present, and future first- and third-party titles." There will be game footage, trailers, interviews with developers, software guides for both Nintendo platforms, and personalised game recommendations.

Gamers will also be able to download demo versions of Nintendo DS games onto their Wii, which they will then be able to transfer via wireless to their DS. These demos will each be available to download for a limited time period, and will be erased from memory once the handheld is turned off.

There are also three new games on the retro-gaming shop Virtual Console available from today forward. The first is Nintendo 64 game Pokemon Puzzle League, a puzzler that requires you to match coloured blocks to clear shapes from a playfield before they reach the top, at which point it's game over. Pokemon Puzzle League is 1,000 Wii Points (£7).

Also available is the 1993 NeoGeo game Samurai Shodown, which features 12 swordsmen with unique characteristics battling to fight the final boss Amakusa Shiro Tokisada. Samurai Shodown costs 900 Wii points (£6.30).

Finally, another NeoGeo game, Burning Fight--originally released in 1991--is also now online. The beat-'em-up features three playable detectives tracking down a crime syndicate. Burning Fight is available for 900 Wii points (£6.30).

@DeanSMASH - not everyone uses Gamespot, doofus. Plus the channel promotes all things Nintendo, something GS is notorious for NOT doing. Oh and there is the DS download service. A good way to test out DS games before you buy. I really like the channel. It is something that I, as a guy that really enjoys Nintendo, can appreciate.

I don't really see the point in this Channel, it just gives us a load of pointless videos and gives us news on upcoming releases. My apologies if this sounds harsh to Nintendo but...isn't that what we have GameSpot for? ;)

As an American, I'm fine with Europe getting something first. It's BS how much they get shafted (Super Smash Bros Brawl comes to mind).

wow, we in europe get something first and all in america start moaning they are treated bad sheesh. try living here in europe you might change your mind then. anyway the channel is pretty cool i just tried the ds downloads and it works great, it would of been better if you didnt have to swich on your wii to download the demos though, they could of made it work through wii connect24, ohh cant have everything.

Moonmarvel, i said a higher proportion were sold here, not a higher number because there are less of anyway, than in America. I do agree that everyone should be given everything at the same time, but it never happens that way.

Moon Marvel, Nintendo does not do that, so don't even think about it. Sometimes products come to the US first, and sometimes they go to Japan. That's just part of life. Deal with it!

Why would I complain? We got it before you because Europe until recently didn't even have a gaming market. No real reason to go into Europe when there wasn't a market for a long time. And the only games US only are sports titles like Madden, because nobody else wants them. And FYI, Japan gets 99% of things before everybody and no American ever complains about that.

The thing is MoonMarvel....do you (or anyone else from USA) complain when you get things first or when something is US exclusive? I hardly think so

So I am being biased because I want everybody to get the same things at the same time at the same price?

MoonMarvel, 97% of the time we Europeans ALWAYS get the short end of the stick when it comes to Nintendo, we are always the last to get some thing, such as a brawl, which isn't even out yet here. You are being very biased towards America who gets everything way before we do. Nintendo needs to focus on us more. I'm not against America at all it's just they always shoving us aside.

hmmm... Anyone notice any similarities with this new channel to the fairly recently added Inside Xbox feature on Xbox Live?

Nice try ropami, but more Wii's are sold here. i have seen the sales and they are higher here than anywhere else in the world. Why should Europeans get anything Americans don't? If Nintendo was smart they either give it to everybody at the same time with the same feature or not at all.

A higher proportion of nintendo wiis are sold in Europe than anywhere else. Europe are usually left out until the last minute and forgotten about, we also have to pay more for everything. America definitely has better treatment, we just rarely get things before, and everytime on blogs Americans complain about it. I applaud Nintendo for taking more concentration on us, they are the only large company to really do so.

Nintendo and MS should merge their online services. I'd pay $10 / year more for a combo "Platinum" membership. It's not like they compete anyway in that area...more users, functions, content and money for all!

This channel is ok. The demos are short, and the videos are poor quality. It's a good idea, but I got bored of it after 20 mins.

This is good news. Wii needed a little boost in Europe that real multiplatform gamers would be interested in. Add to that WiiWare... class.
