Ninja Is Back On Twitch With Exclusive Multi-Year Deal

Amazon-owned Twitch has scooped up Ninja, again, after Mixer's shuttering.

Popular streamer Tyler "Ninja" Blevins is returning to his previous livestreaming home, Twitch, where he will stream again going forward. The two parties have signed a multi-year deal, with Ninja streaming exclusively on the Amazon-owned service. Prior to leaving the platform, he had been one of the most-successful game streamers in history.

"I am excited to get back to streaming full-time and connecting with my loyal fanbase," Ninja said in a statement. "I really took my time to decide which platform was best and Twitch has been supportive throughout this process and understanding my overall career goals. In this next chapter, I'm going to make it a point to elevate and bring more eyes to underrepresented creators. I am looking forward to working with Twitch to demonstrate how this amazing community of gamers can make a meaningful impact."

This comes almost three months after Ninja's previous home base, Mixer, shut down in favor of a Facebook Gaming partnership. Ninja signed an exclusivity deal with Microsoft's livestreaming service in August 2019, alongside well-known streamer and former Counter-Strike: Global Offensive competitive player Michael "Shroud" Grzesiek a few months later. Shroud returned to Twitch in August 2020. Those who didn't move to another platform had the option of streaming on Facebook, instead, as Microsoft partnered with the company. They were reportedly offered huge payouts, as well.

Ninja's subscriber count was never as high on Mixer as it was on Twitch--he currently has 15.5 million subscribers on the platform. Since returning, he has streamed Among Us, Valorant, and Fall Guys.

"We are thrilled Ninja is returning to Twitch," Twitch's senior vice president of content Michael Aragon said. "Tyler is an iconic force in the gaming community, and it's been amazing to see the impact he's made on the industry and the broader culture. Gaming--and the people who love it--are being recognized by a broad mainstream audience now in part because of Tyler, and we know he's just getting started."

The details of the deal between Twitch and Ninja, such as how much it's for and how long it will last, remain unclear for now. Ninja currently has 15 million followers on Twitch. He played Valorant upon his return, but is best known for Fortnite. Prior to his rise to streaming, he was a competitve gamer who specialized in Halo.

yaa know theyre really is no harm about saying , "they paid me alot for this exclusive deal"

when you mask it behind some corny benevolent cause it makes you seem like a huge douche..unless that is what he is going for and he is being very META about this to build a villanous role for criticcs like me to discuss him and add to his name being mentioned

I really wish Amazon would help smaller streamers with deals instead of bigger people like ninja in my opinion. Like help out the smaller ones. I would like to stream myself but it seems so damn hard to actually gain an audience like ninja.

Lucky rich jerk and his annoyingly stupid fan base. Call me jelly or rage at me all you like peoples. I simply do not care, wont even come back to this comment ever, and I laugh knowing that what I just said is a fact that no one can deny.

He's a jerk and his fans are pretty dumb. Well okay... I'll pull a trimp here and say "I'm sure some of them are very fine people".

Only in a world this colossally stupid would "streaming", be a "career". Jesus.....

@datriax: I mean idk that I would agree with that...why is it stupid to have a career in gaming? Think about all the menial jobs people have suffered doing for year’s and this actually gives people an outlet to do what they love for a living, I can’t hate on that

@datriax: He's about as far removed from my tastes as you can get, but he's clearly entertaining someone. He wouldn't be getting this cash if people weren't watching.

@datriax: I mean... I think all artists should get paid for their work and all but ya know... Some artists don't really do anything special and get paid a lot while others didn't see a penny until years after their friggin death. Very annoying... This guy plays a generic micro transaction game while acting silly with blue hair... And apparently it's gotten him millions of dollars a month since what... A few years ago? Must be nice to cruise through life so easily lol. I know he would argue he's worked hard blah blah blah and it's like... We all work hard lol.

Good for him I guess. To get another deal, they would have had to see some drop off of watchers without him on the platform, otherwise, I see no need to have paid him to return. Maybe it just gets more lights on the platform, now that he's bounced all over the place.

@Thanatos2k: Most people do worse for less. He got a pretty sweet deal really and despite his diminished audience on Mixer, he was still able to bargain a deal with his prior company to make more bank.

Opinion. I feel the opposite. That only some people do worse for less.

@goldenageplayer: All opinions, I'd say signing a multi million dollar deal to stream exclusively on one platform, the platform willing to pay you, isn't really that bad.

I'll never get what people see in obnoxious, fake-rage streamers like him, but he's clearly valuable. Hopefully his fanbase won't have to move around again.

@YukoAsho: I agree, I only really like streamers who are focused on entertainment, being funny and all that. I tried watching this guy when he went to mixer, cause his icon was flagged all over my dashboard and for a good few minutes, he didn't even speak, just sat there starring intensely at the screen. It probably doesn't help I have no interest in Fortnite lol.

I don't watch a lot of streamers and when I do, it's not all the time

@thelostscribe: That's my thought too. I like casual, real, friendly folks when I'm watching game streamers. Something I can just lie down and feel like I'm chillin' with. I'd rather watch some chill-out retro game streamers than people who make an exaggerated, obviously fake show.

@proxima1025: The current "cultural appropriation" mindset as defined by Twitter & Tumblr?

Yeah, I don't understand people who cry "cultural appropriation" all the time. A healthy cultural exchange is necessary to bring people together.
