The new Nier project in development at Square Enix will feature a soundtrack by the original game's composer in addition to gameplay contributions from Platinum Games.

Keiichi Okabe, the composer who wrote the critically-acclaimed and often-remixed soundtrack of the first Nier, will return for the new game. Also joining the team is artist Akihiko Yoshida, whose design pedigree includes Final Fantasy Tactics, Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy XII and the Bravely Default games.

Platinum has been signed to help Square Enix with the new project's combat. Square wanted to work with a developer with a strong action game pedigree, and initially approached Platinum to assist. New Nier has was in pre-production for six months, and as of December 2014, development has been fully underway.

Producer Yosuke Saito also suggested to GameSpot that New Nier will be PlayStation 4 only, responding to a question about playing on the Xbox One with, "Please play on PlayStation 4."

The new Nier project was announced at E3 2015 during Square Enix's press conference. Check out the first look at the game below.
