Sega of America has announced that the Xbox version of NHL 2K3 will be the only version to have support for online multiplayer play. Like other games in the 2K3 series, NHL 2K3 will feature the ESPN style and presentation. It will also have an improved franchise mode in which players can take on the roles of coach, scout, and player. In addition, all the players in NHL 2K3 have been rated in 50 categories, making them perform more like their real-life counterparts. The development team has made some improvements to gameplay as well, including refined play execution, and more-realistic puck physics.

NHL 2K3 is scheduled for release on the GameCube, PlayStation 2, and Xbox in November.
