NFL GameDay 2004 E3 2003 Preshow Report
GameDay is back and on track for a late summer release.
Sony and 989 have released a few details on its upcoming NFL football game, NFL GameDay 2004. The game was online last year, and the series' online mode will see a handful of new in-game and front-end improvements this year.
Like all the other 989 Sports games this year, GameDay's online menus and options will be expanded a great deal. All the games will use a unified login and password, letting you keep track of things like buddy lists and statistics between all the different 989 Sports products. There will be a unified lobby, letting players of different games chat together. Message boards and private e-mail-like messaging will work in a similar fashion. You'll also be able to check on your statistics and access the 989 lobby from a PC. Up to four players will be able to play online, presumably limited to two to a system. The game will also have weekly roster updates and, like Midway's NFL Blitz Pro, real-time weather downloading.
Updated playbooks and artificial intelligence are the two things 989 is touting for this year's game. The updated playbooks are designed to keep up with the latest play-calling trends in the NFL. The AI is being designed so that it will attempt to act like a human player. For example, the defensive secondary will now drop into zones and make what 989 calls "human-type decisions" when a threat enters their zone.
NFL GameDay 2004 is planned to hit stores in August.
