Next Titanfall Game "Looking Fantastic," EA CEO Says

EA CEO Andrew Wilson says company has "great faith in [Respawn] to build a spectacular game."

Respawn Entertainment's next Titanfall game is coming along nicely, according to Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson. Speaking during a post-earnings financial call today, Wilson said he has seen the game and reported that "it's looking fantastic," though he didn't share any specifics about what he saw.

The original Titanfall
The original Titanfall

He went on to say that EA has "great faith in [Respawn] to build a spectacular game," noting that more details on this game--which has not even been officially announced yet--will be shared in the months ahead.

Wilson's comments came in response to an analyst's question regarding the nature of EA's publishing arrangement with Respawn for the next Titanfall game. Wilson said it's too early to dig into specifics.

It's possible that EA will talk more about the next Titanfall game during its just-announced EA Play event at E3 this year in June, though this has not been confirmed.

The next Titanfall game is scheduled to launch during EA's fiscal year 2017, a point that was reiterated during EA's call today. That means Titanfall 2 is due to launch sometime between April 1, 2016 and March 31, 2017.

After lots of rumors, Respawn co-founder Vince Zampella confirmed in March 2014 that Titanfall 2 was in development. The original game was released only for Xbox consoles and PC, but the sequel is expected to be a multiplatform title, Zampella said.

I still play TF on PC a lot with a few friends granted it's players base isn't massive on the Europe server when I play average is around 700-900 mostly but I like to play a game of Frontia Defence from time to time and Attrition as well. The game needed a better unlocking system and I think it just needed more Titan Chassis and a huge customization system to how they look, it would of been awesome to see people have different designs etc Armored Core had a system like this why didn't this game.

But I don't just mean skins I'm thinking also lock on systems like chips that make your titan lock on faster but maybe have fewer lock ons stuff like that

One of the more balanced games out right now. But there wasn't much there to justify long-term replayability

Even today I enjoy Titanfall. Dont understand why people want to knock it. It's a great balanced game between pilot and Titan, and neither are overpowering.

Now you're going to see all these PS4 people that knocked Titanfall because it was on the Xbox only (console-wise people), get on the wagon and say "damn, this is a great game. I love it." Yes, you know you will, so stop pretending.

I wish it would stay as an Xbox only game, but business is business.

I'll expect TF2 to have some lame ass story mode to accommodate the weaklings that want story mode, which this game does not need it. Rather have all their resources focused on the multiplayer and make it better than the first one, even though the first one is just right.

@penkowalski: i think people knocked it because it was just a bad game that had no content and bots (which is one of the worst things you can have in a multiplayer game) but i can see why you x1 fanboys think everyone who doesnt like the game is because it was only for x1 and PC so they must be a ps4 fanboy LOL fanboys like yourself are hilarious

@qisoqiso: Mainly because the majority of the ones that could not play TF, all they did was shit on it because it was only on the Xbox (again, console-wise). Now that TF2 will be a multiplat game, watch these same people change their tune.

@penkowalski: I completely agree with you and still play Titanfall to this day. The game is incredibly balanced, the controls and movement mechanics are superb and simple. I tend to believe the somewhat limited load outs was purposely done for balancing. The AI yes could be more meaningful but this was a done on purpose as a farming tool for less skilled players and for more skilled to master in terms of combat flow - people always could play Pilot Hunter but whatever. The AI also greatly curbed camping because sitting on a large map waiting was not beneficial as the mobile player was accumulating more points. Final point the whole drop ship implementation at the end of the round was simply brilliant. Finally in regards to hit detection, lag free, quick connection, weapon and bullet feedback the game has performed greatly for the most part. More excited for Titanfall 2 than any other shooter with competitive MP.

And yet the first game released with few features, maps, and modes. Way to "focus" their time.

Well, it's a good thing TF1 didn't have a story (that mattered), because potential PS4 players would be lost in 2.

Didn't they say the same when Titanfall 1 was being developed? I bought it for $25 on Origin, played it and asked for a refund. They hyped the game to be the "revolution of gaming", it fell off at the "r", just like Destiny did afterwards.

And I wouldn't be surprised if people appeared asking for a pre-order of this game.

@Kusann: The gaming press said that stuff about it too. I guess it did influence the movement mechanics in other shooters but yeash it was nowhere near the amazing revolution they said it would be.

I passed on the first game because im not paying 60 or even 40 for a game that literally relies on an online community in a genre that has game sequels every year or other year. When titanfall 2 comes out the first one will be worthless. It just as well would have never been made.

Needs a campaign.

Ditch the bots.

I bought both this and SW battlefront. Both EA and both essentially the same game.

No campaign

Very little content

Little customization.

I quit titanfall but still play SW sometimes hypcritically.

I know what Star Wars is. I might have played titanfall more if I knew who? What? When? Where? Why? And what's with the Dino's? The stories during battle I couldn't listen to and play at the same time.

@lrdfancypants The bots would fine if the A.I. was any good. Also keep them exclusive to a Big Battle type game mode like the Warzone in Halo 5. They work for that mode, and their AI isn't brain dead so you can actually rely on them

That's true. The AI was the problem.

I would like a larger player count. It feels like a game meant for larger player count.

Meh. It's EA, so it's Origin, so no sale. Just like TF, ME3, and every other Origin-Only game.

Most underrated game of 2014/2015. I had fun with this. It was as solid and simple as a shooter could get. Easy to learn, tough to master. I look forward to playing Titanfall 2.

Free maps.

Pay for cosmetics.

Stop segregating and fragmenting your community.

Then maybe any potential sequel to Titanfall won't die within two months. Give people a reason to keep playing.

@tony56723: You want the game to be supported post launch, right? Makes sense. If it just launches with the set maps and never gets more, or more game modes or weapons or whatever, it gets stale REALLY fast. So you need more content. That stuff costs money.

So you charge for map packs right? So...you segregate the online community between those with the maps and those without, and never the twain shall meet. And then more map packs come out and fragment things further.

If you keep the maps free, everyone will have them so the community will always be able to play anything at any time. The game will lose money though since developing that stuff is totes expensive. Gotta charge for something, why not charge for the superfluous crap that doesn't matter? Gun skins, character skins, mech skins, cosmetic stuff that is entirely personal. Add the files as a patch so you can see it on others even if you don't own it. That way the game gets long term support without segregating the community.

@tony56723: Why does it need to go? Diversity of customization is the main reason for cosmetics. Running around like a bunch of clones/copies is a good thing in a game?? Besides it will never be obligatory to buy this stuff! I also believe that cosmetics can't come included in a game, because it needs to have endless options to prolonge the game itself.

@masta_js: When did I say we should all be clones? And I don't personally care if it's not obligatory, cosmetics in a $60 games should be progression and challenge based, not lopped off and sold to the customer who has already paid premium price for the game.

Hope this one's campaign lives up to the promises they made for the first game's campaign, it sounded pretty innovative when they talked about it in interviews but what got released was a huge letdown.

"This paid infomercial brought to you by EA; where every future title looks 'promising'."

It's really sad when you know what an article's about without reading it. Love the launch window, lol. I'm sure people would also start stockpiling supplies for the eventual incineration of the earth in the next 500 -1500 million years from the suns expansion.
