Next slate of Wii TurboGrafx-16 games revealed

Bloody Wolf, China Warrior, Dead Moon, and JJ & Jeff headed for Virtual Console in the next month.

Hudson is giving Wii owners a heads up on the next batch of TurboGrafx-16 games set for release on the Virtual Console, as the company has updated its coming-soon list with releases through June. Next month will see the release of Bloody Wolf, Dead Moon, and China Warrior on the Virtual Console.

Originally developed by Data East and released for the TurboGrafx-16 in 1990, Bloody Wolf is a run-and-gun shooter featuring two commandos--Snake and Eagle--infiltrating an enemy base to free a presidential candidate and hostages. Natsume's Dead Moon is a side-scrolling shooter released for the system in 1992 that features scrolling backgrounds and a variety of offensive and defensive power-up configurations.

China Warrior is a side-scrolling fighting game in a similar vein as Irem's Kung Fu, albeit with much larger character sprites. Released in 1989, the game has players fighting an array of robed enemies and bosses as well as dodging oncoming hazards like fireballs, bats, boulders, and knives.

World Sports Competition, previously announced for a May release, has been pushed to June, but Hudson has set another game for release in its place this coming Monday. That game is JJ & Jeff, a side-scrolling comic-action game from 1990 that follows two hapless detectives as they try to rescue a kidnapped businessman.

Keeping with the standard Virtual Console pricing conventions, all five games will sell for 600 Wii points ($6).

I think that most people miss the point of these games for the VC. Many of us have fond memories of these games. Many have never tried them due to their age. There are many good things about old games, even if they are dated and would not be considered great games by todays standards. There is no doubt that the Turbo had a spotty history of games in its day. While many were crap, there are some titles that paved the way for the great games we play today. Whether you download these games out of curiousity or nostalgia, some will not disappoint. On that note, take it from me, I owned and played all of these games at one time. Bloody wolf was cool back in the early 90's, but probably won't hold up today. Check it out if you like Contra and such, just beware of spotty control issues. China Warrior was a gimmic in its day. The gameplay was horrible, as all of it was supposed to show off how big the Turbo could render sprites. Avoid this game. Dead Moon was a pretty vanilla side scroller. Hold out for Psychosis or Sinistron instead. Or just download Blazing Lazers. Its not bad, just not that awesome. JJ & Jeff was not a great game in its day. It had some good ideas, but would be best left alone. To anyone who says the Turbo games are not good at all obviously never had one. Devils Crush is still an addictive pinball game, Super Star Soldier is one of the greatest shooters, and Bonk's Revenge is a great platformer.

LOL. I'm not missing anything since I was old enough to play them the first time around (15 years ago).

Can people stop their whining about this already! Look you want new games. Great! don't Download and play the old ones simple enough. Besides releasing old games does not stop companies from making new ones at all. All a company does is go into their archives pull out the code from the old game and port it to Wii's Virtual Console, 360 Live Arcade, or PS3 Network. this takes little to no time to do at all. It is not stopping you from buying and playing new games or form new games getting developed. If you don't like old games great! Don't play them although you are missing out on a lot of great stuff if you do this. Also the T-16 is not no name at all. it had a ton of great games that many of us older gamers remember fondly. In fact the T-16 is considered by many to be the greatest underrated system ever right after the Dreamcast. Bonk, Valis, Blazing Lasers, Legendary Axe , Devil's Crush are just a few of the games it had that were awesome.

I think it's unanimous, we want more SNES games, no more of this no-name garbage. The VC is turning out entirely different from what I expected.

I've already played most of these games being release on the VC and live. I have no interest in playing them again. How about they focus on developing NEW games?

How about something that hasn't been independently emulated yet? I'm thinking Capcom's CPS-3. I think it would be awesome.

1. The TG16 had a longer life than most would think. It was released as the TurboDuo half-way through its life. Also its problems could be attributed to the fact that NEC was having some pretty bad financial problems in the US at the time (they were eventually purchased by Packard Bell *shudder*). 2. Just because you haven't played the games does not make them necc. bad. I have not played these games but there were more than a few great games for the TG-16.

Talk about straining through garbase for pearls. With fans screaming for N64 and so many other fine games, what the hell is the idea of games so pitiful that even hardcore gamers have nothing better to say about them than "meh".

@kavadias1981: yes I can see you're 25 thanks to the birthyear in your alias. To answer your question, no the Turbo was never officially released in Europe territories, though some importers jacked the hardware to support PAL and SCART.

zzz...there's a reason that console didn't make it very long Except in Japan where the lifespan of the PC Engine and it's related consoles stretched from 1987 until 1999. Way to show your ass kid.

Make sure to steer clear of China Warrior. The music is catchy, but the game itself is absolutely horrible. I should know...I bought it and still have the HuCard.

Tg-16 games are on the Euro vc so yes it was released in the UK. Don't worry a lot of people in the United States had no idea of it's existance either. As for cd games guess what most of that was uncompressed audio that today could be compressed to a fraction of it's size yet lose no quality.

For everyone talking about Cd based games, remember that while all space was used, all of it wasn't game related. Extra data was added back in the day to curb the copying of games. Come on people, THINK! If you can fit 2 properly compressed DVD movis on a 512mb sd card, you could fit a game. The tools are there, the real question is who will use them first. Dreamcast games, originally on Gigabyte discs, can be copied to CD's.

Well Nintendo if they were smart COULD allow the games to be stored individually on memory cards for the cd games. Obviously the music wouldn't be CD quality...

Ha ha You will never get Y's Book 1&2 since it is a TG CD game and Has no chance of fitting on the wii with an accpetable amount of space, and nintendo wont let it happen. Im looking at the Y's Book 1&2 disc now It's filled there goes your wii 512 mb space in one pop if nintendo is even letting you have all that 512mb space to put the game on.. You wont get any other Super CD or CD game either until nintendo gives you storage. Ohh and th USA version of JJ & Jeff is censored .
