Resident Evil is off to San Francisco and Alcatraz Island for its next CG-animated film, which will once again see Leon Kennedy and Chris Redfield face off against rogue bioweapons. While Kennedy embarks on a rescue mission for the Division of Security Operations, Redfield's job as a Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance agent takes him to San Francisco to deal with a fresh zombie outbreak.

With both cases linked to Alcatraz Island, Redfield and Kennedy find themselves visiting the infamous island prison and imprisoned with a new breed of horror within its walls. This new Resident Evil film features heavyweight anime talent behind the scenes, as Assassination Classroom's Eiichiro Hasumi directed the film from a screenplay by Makoto Fukami of Psycho-Pass fame.

This is the fourth full-length CG-animated Resident Evil film, following Degeneration, Damnation, and Vendetta, and it'll be distributed worldwide in Summer 2023. These films have been generally well-received in comparison to Paul W. Anderson's cheesier live-action films, thanks to high production quality and incredible meme-worthy moments.

The last few years have seen plenty of Resident Evil content hit small and big screens, as a Netflix adaptation ran for a single season, a short CG-animated series, Infinite Darkness, was released in 2021, and the live-action film Resident Evil: Welcome to Racoon City adapted the first two games.

In the games department, this year will see a remake of what many fans consider to be the best game in the series, Resident Evil 4, release on March 24 for PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.
