Next Overwatch PTR Patch Will Change Characters Significantly, Except for Symmetra
Symmetra's changes are "much more significant and require more time to finish up."
Overwatch on PC is due for its next PTR patch, and principal designer Geoff Goodman said on the game's forums that this one will feature "more significant hero changes" and "more significant iterations" during its cycle.
Goodman explained that the next PTR is a change from what Blizzard has normally done. The PTR has been used in most cases to "make sure the game is solid and there aren't any heinous issues that would prevent" a patch from releasing. Additionally, Goodman said that the team didn't always have time to test different iterations of changes. He added that the changes in the upcoming patch "are unlikely to make it through PTR unchanged."
"We want to try a bunch of things and see what's fun and working and iterate more quickly from there," he explained. "In this way, we get to have you guys involved earlier in the process."
The developer says he hopes to have the patch out "later this week some time." The upcoming patch's notes aren't available yet, but he says adjustments and changes to one character will be missing when they get released.
"There aren't any Symmetra changes for this patch," Goodman said. "Her changes ended up being much more significant and require more time to finish up, but she's feeling pretty great internally so hopefully we can get her out there pretty soon."
Overwatch recently launched a Halloween event that brought new items to be found in loot boxes and introduced the shooter's first cooperative mode. Junkenstein's Revenge has players defending the gates of Eichenwalde against Junkrat, Roadhog, and an army of robots. However, you can only play as one of four characters: Soldier 76, McCree, Ana, and Hanzo.
