BioWare has launched a fan survey asking fans to provide feedback to help make the next Mass Effect game "the best one yet." Producer Mike Gamble tweeted a link to the survey, which asks players what games they have played recently and what aspects of a new Mass Effect game they are most looking forward to. The options include Story, Exploration, Combat, and Customization. You can rank those choices from 1 (least) to 7 (most). The survey also asks you to elaborate on your choices and mention if BioWare left anything out.

The Mass Effect survey also asks how many hours you spend per week playing role-playing games and asks you to rank your top three RPG activities; options include engaging in combat, leveling up, and exploring alternative story outcomes, among others. In addition, the survey asks if you are planning to attend San Diego Comic Con (July), Gamescom (August), or PAX Prime (August-September), and if you enjoy cosplaying.

Not long after the survey was distributed last night, Gamble said BioWare has seen an "overwhelming response to the survey so far." He went on to say that he has "reading material for a month" and that he doesn't want responses to stop yet. "Keep 'em coming," he said.

If you're eager for more news about the next Mass Effect game, you don't have much longer to wait, as BioWare designers will talk about the project at San Diego Comic-Con next week. The new Mass Effect game does not have a release date yet and platforms have not been announced.

What we do know is that it leaves the story of Commander Shepard and the first three games behind. BioWare began teasing images from the new game in November 2013, and shortly thereafter we learned it is already playable. Overall, the next Mass Effect game is described as "fresh but recognizable."

#1 The main character can't die and they need to force in a happy ending, even if that's not what they envisioned or wanted.

#2 At least 4,000 vastly different endings based on every mundane decision I've made throughout the game.

#3 Every character must react to every situation in a consistent manner. No layered personalities or compromising based on the situation; good characters are always good and evil ones are always evil, no matter what's happening.

#4 Show everything. Showers, bathroom breaks, sleeping; don't leave anything floating out there to be covered by common sense. Anything I didn't see happen is a plot hole.

<< LINK REMOVED >> I agree. After watching all my choices play out in the last scene of ME3, my response was 'Hey, Shepard never took a crap!".

Bring back exploration BioWare, it was the best fun driving Mako aimlessly on planets in ME1.

Avatar image for deactivated-5bf85f246fcb3

<< LINK REMOVED >> I agree that more open exploration would be cool. But ME1 actually did it in a fairly boring way. The planets were largely empty and uninteresting. For a future Mass Effect game, I'd like to see planets that are rich with optional content, resources, secrets, atmosphere, missions, architecture, nature, creatures, and so on. Even if it means having fewer planets in total, I'd opt for planets that are fun and rewarding to explore.

Besides that, a new ME game should have more depth in terms of inventory management, customization for gear and weapons and more tactical combat. And a good story obviously, but I'm fairly confident Bioware will do fine in terms of story and characters as they usually do.

So instead of asking for fresh new ideas, they ask you which of the things already in the game you like doing best. So no matter which was the votes go, they have covered all bases and can say "See, we listened to player feedback and have provided [X FEATURE] into our new game". It's giving people the illusion that their opinion matters.

<< LINK REMOVED >> There's troIIing, and then there's people voicing genuine displeasure with something. I think most of what's going on here is the latter.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> Yeah, but on the survey? C'mon. There's going to be a lot of... um... less than constructive criticism.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> And all of it will be well deserved, and needs to be seen. Bioware needs to pull its head out of its @ss and see how little favor it has left with anyone.

Eh, I don't buy it. Development is pretty far underway; and with some announcments coming soon, it seems like a little shoulder rubbing to try and placate people.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Then why bother at all? If they give people the opportunity to provide feedback then don't use any of it then they're just fueling the fires. Namco sought feedback after the Ace Combat Infinity. The game was released three months later, and I have to say that there were differences.

Very interesting survey!
1. Who would you most likely shoot in the face in Mass Effect? 1 (least) to 7 (most)

- Marauder Shields (1) (Just because we have to)

- Space hamster (1)

- Ashley's new haircut (5)

- James Vega (6)

- Tali's badly photoshopped face in portrait (6)

- Endings and Extended Cut (7)

- Star Child (7)

- Casey Hudson (7)

Make deep meaningful RPG's.

Avatar image for simsumre

@jeager_titan This is all Bioware really needs to do, go back to their roots. It's such an easy concept, I mean, just make what was successful in the past. Just look at the sales between Origins and DA2. These are both "modern" games. Origins sold extremely well, yet they chose to go in a different direction. I'll never understand the idea that development needs to cater to the CoD crowd when you have an entire market begging for you to hand them a true RPG experience.

In short, Bioware needs to make Bioware games. Not EA games with endless DLC and micro-transactions. Bioware needs to start being Bioware again and stop being EA's b**ch.

<< LINK REMOVED >>

I agree with you but didn't EA buy out Bioware after the first Mass Effect game? If so then unfortunately they are EA's biatches.

I wish that wasn't the case, such a shame.
