BioWare has launched a fan survey asking fans to provide feedback to help make the next Mass Effect game "the best one yet." Producer Mike Gamble tweeted a link to the survey, which asks players what games they have played recently and what aspects of a new Mass Effect game they are most looking forward to. The options include Story, Exploration, Combat, and Customization. You can rank those choices from 1 (least) to 7 (most). The survey also asks you to elaborate on your choices and mention if BioWare left anything out.

The Mass Effect survey also asks how many hours you spend per week playing role-playing games and asks you to rank your top three RPG activities; options include engaging in combat, leveling up, and exploring alternative story outcomes, among others. In addition, the survey asks if you are planning to attend San Diego Comic Con (July), Gamescom (August), or PAX Prime (August-September), and if you enjoy cosplaying.

Not long after the survey was distributed last night, Gamble said BioWare has seen an "overwhelming response to the survey so far." He went on to say that he has "reading material for a month" and that he doesn't want responses to stop yet. "Keep 'em coming," he said.

If you're eager for more news about the next Mass Effect game, you don't have much longer to wait, as BioWare designers will talk about the project at San Diego Comic-Con next week. The new Mass Effect game does not have a release date yet and platforms have not been announced.

What we do know is that it leaves the story of Commander Shepard and the first three games behind. BioWare began teasing images from the new game in November 2013, and shortly thereafter we learned it is already playable. Overall, the next Mass Effect game is described as "fresh but recognizable."

Simple answer to this one:

Make your games more in the vein of DA:O and ME1, and pretend DA2 and ME3 never existed.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Loved ME3 but a guess ME2 was my favorite....something was missing from Me 3 though...

<< LINK REMOVED >> Absolutely loved ME1. It was fun to explore planets with M35 Mako; i'm one of the few that had no problems with the controls. ME1 also had rich a skill tree and abundant of different gear. They fixed the combat for ME2 but they simplified the skills tree, gear and removed any aspect of exploration. I thought ME3 was a bad game in general, not just because of the endings. It was a corridor shooter point A to B. Same scenario happened to DA:O and DA2.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Yeah agreed especially Dragon Age II, That game was crap. Dragon Age Origins was a classic for the ages. More like Dragon Age Origins and ME 1&2 and less like DAII and ME3.

@MasterSatsujin @BuBsay DA2 wasn't that amazing at all, have you actually played it?? The area maps were repeated and the story was wasn't as good as DA1. The best part about it was the graphics(with DX11 update) and the combat mechanics. The characters were interesting as well. It's good to see them meld gameplay of DA1 and DA2 in DA:I. I'm impressed with what I have seen so far with the gameplay footage.

Avatar image for T-_-K

<< LINK REMOVED >> for me the story was lame and clouded, graphics and fighting mechanisms were good, the small repetitive maps were just game killers, most of the characters are from DAO, there wasn't a backstory behind each character as in DAO and ME2, there were also very few characters, no destinations to go, like in DAO, bad soundtracks, lame quest and side quests, i barely had the appetite to finish the game X(

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> I'm afraid that's your problem if you don't see the amazing things about Dragon Age 2. I'm glad I'm able to see them.

Avatar image for BuBsay

@MasterSatsujin @T-_-K I think that's more your acceptance of lower quality games than him.

Hell, even Bioware themselves have acknowledged DA2 as a misstep and have done everything possible to distance DA3 from it. There's a reason why DA:O is remembered as one of the best PC RPG's of the last decade, and DA2 is considered a tremendous disappointment.

Avatar image for MasterSatsujin

<< LINK REMOVED >> The only reason Bioware considers Dragon Age 2 a disappointment is because of all of the whiney gamers that want the game to be identical to Origins.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> So if a game is bad, it's the player's fault for not being able to recognize the inherent greatness found in a game? Not, you know, the developer's fault for trying to make a massive RPG in less than a year, when even the people in the development studio acknowledged that it wasn't nearly enough time and later openly apologized for it?

My god, you should work for EA. Your logic sounds just like their PR teams.

ME1 was cool too but gameplay was a little green tough..

Avatar image for BuBsay

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> ME1 had the best RPG elements of the three, but the combat was definitely the weakest.

ME3's gameplay felt so much like a modern AAA cover based shooter it was painful (my god if there was one more turret section I was just gonna quit) and reduced the amount of dialogue you actually control, couple that with an incoherent storyline and it definitely was the weakest of the three.

Keep the game story driven... Keep the idea of choosing your fate and destiny which is what makes Bioware among a favorite game designer for me. I think there should be lots of combat but not TOO much. The ability to be able to explore the world and do alternative side story missions is also very appealing. Take the time to make ME4 the greatest ever. Don't rush it!

ive heard some say that they want to be able to choose species. i think if they did this then it would probably cheapen the experience. Dialogue would be made very generic in places and it will probably feel like you just chose a different skin rather than a race. Stick with one race but different genders. However they should make it where you can control a squad member (of different races) in battle for a set period. Also insure we get a voice actor better than Mark Meer, cant stand his voice when im replaying the games. Controller support for PC as well

<< LINK REMOVED >> Yes, he can. EA is a company that is looking for profit. The fact that people don't research and pay attention to what is shown and known before buying a game and give them easy profit is not fault of the EA.

Avatar image for Jycklarn

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> It actually is EA's fault as well.
as a provider of entertainment and entertainment services they have a responsibility to give their customers as good of an experience as possible. which they just don't.

And then we have the systematic destruction of legendary IP's that they seem to love so much.
Everything from the C&C series to dungeon keep and sim city just to mention a few has been completely ruined due solely to greed and the want for a quick buck.
They have a responsibilty there as well, to carry on the different series they govern over and a manner the is worthy of the legacies those seires have, which EA just craps all over.

There is all lot of talent within the studio owned by EA and that talent is held back because the highest authority and final say in the company does not belong to people who love games but to people who love money and are only into the gaming industry because of the money they see.
Something that is utterly ruining the industry just like giant recordlable are ruining the music industry.

Of course companies are looking for a profit and there investments are huge, but in an industry that is all about fun and creativity you have to have an interest in the medium itself as well and not just the money. If money is you only goal then you start to spread a poison throughout not just your company but the entire industry because the gamers will notice and start to abandon you slowly and soon enough you start loose that profit you so badly crave.

EA is a bad thing pure and simple and it's sad that so many talented people are stuck working under such an uncreative "master"

Avatar image for porcupine-fur

Look, that what you just said is all well and fine in the world of ideas. I am all for the companies caring for their customers. But here in the real world it doesn't work that way. You know why games even happened? Why those few people that were creative were given money and support? Because there was more money in the long run - pure and simple tactics. For example, you give Bioware money, pull them out of the hard times, push their products on the shelves and you have one good game, and you have a solid ground, base from which you can try to suck out as much money as you can. So now you try to go the easy way to earn money, for example DA2. Now you leave something similar to the orignal, but you don't give it enough time to grow and be better because you are counting on something - people believe you, they bought the first game, loved it, high chance of them getting the second. And guess what? They do! So the point is - they are constantly taking risks using marketing and considering human psychology. The power is in the consumers - show them the easy way to the money is not there. Observe what you are shown and then and only then will you get good games. And not because there will be a nice game company that wants to give you your nice games preferably for free and without dlc. Because we all live in a happy place.

I would love if the game was more rpg oriented, and practically that was the central theme of my feedback. I think ME2 and 3 went far off from the first game. Whereas the combat evolved, everything else devolved into a basic shooter. While ME2 kept some of its rpg roots however, ME3 was just a third person shooter with some rpg elements here and there, exploration was close to none, and other upsetting stuff I don't wanna talk about anymore.

What I loved in the series was the story, imo it was ME's strongest point. The soundtrack also was marvelous, especially in the 3rd game. Also the characters were great. Combat also got better in 2 and 3 perfected it. The customization was a bit weak in 2 and 3, I think it could've been more detailed.
Now for the exploration part, if it could stay like it was in the first game, landing on the planet and searching for minerals, that would have been great. I really hope they focus on this one in ME4
