Now Playing: Mafia III - Stones Unturned DLC Launch Trailer

GameSpot may get a commission from retail offers.

2K's crime game Mafia III expands today with a new expansion called Stones Unturned.

The character John Donovan is the focus of the expansion, as he joins main character Lincoln Clay as they both "uncover a dangerous plot" in New Bordeaux. This chase will take players to a "new island location that holds secrets long held classified."

Donovan joins Clay as they hunt down their formal rival Connor Aldridge, while the new island is described as "dense jungle." Players will track down a crashed military plane and the cargo that got scattered in the downing.

Stones Unturned also adds Bounty Hunting missions and a number of new weapons and items, including the following (descriptions written by 2K):

  • Weapons: Hop in the back of a vehicle-mounted turret and take out incoming foes, or go loud with the improved grenade launcher and RPG.
  • Sniper Service: You’ll also get the ability to call in Marshall's Sniper Service to quickly pinpoint and take out enemies.
  • Outfits: Go tactical with the new Jungle Camo commando garb for more serious affairs, or don the Party Animal outfit for a casual look that would fit just right on an island or in a Cuban café.
  • New Fleet Vehicles: The heavy-duty Griffin Borneo Sport joins Lincoln’s fleet after completing the story missions. Make sure to complete all of the bounty hunting missions to get the sporty De'Leo Stiletto, as well as new decals for customising your ride.

Stones Unturned is Mafia III's second paid expansion, following "Faster, Baby!" A third expansion, called "Sign of the Times" and involving cults, will come out later. Stones Unturned is included Mafia III's $30 season pass or can be purchased by itself for $15.

Mafia III has shipped 5 million copies by Take-Two's latest count. It shipped 4.5 million copies in its launch week last year, setting a new record for 2K. The game is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

I started playing the game and liked it for a while. But there's just too many issues with the shooting and cover system, and the driving just doesn't feel right. They wanted to be like GTA V, but failed miserably. I swapped my copy with a guy at work and he, too, is thinking about doing the same.

It's so sad cause I loved playing the last two games.

They really went off the rails with this series - first Mafia game I haven't purchased, and never will. What does anything in this game have to do with the original storyline, characters, theme etc..,? It's not a "Mafia" game and should've just been called something else - but they had to make $$ and drag the original, great series through the mud I guess, to do it.

No idea why people buy this stuff. Don't support it.

I wish I could enjoy this game but I gave up after trying to figure out why it crashes 10-15mins in. Was fun initially but yea, if I can't play then i'm out.

My PC is capable of running any other game just fine.

@kingjeremy77: I enjoyed it as well. The game got (deservedly) bashed at launch because of bugs. But almost all the bugs have been patched and it is pretty fun.

@kingjeremy77: No, you just don't waste your time reading articles about games you don't like and then trashing them in the comments. Instead, you go to games you DO like and say so. That's what normal people do. I love this game, even with it's faults and super short first expansion. I mean the trailer we just saw was longer than Faster Baby, but so what if the storyline isn't the same as the first two games. Neither is the mafia...

@kingjeremy77: I like the game too and I preordered season pass. the game was quite shitty when launched. nowadays I an run it okay with frames still dropping from 37-70 fps. even though I game on 1080ti, 8gb ram, ssd hd. 1080p

@darth_gus: what you talking about? After patches it runs smooth at 60fps locked and I only have GTX 1070. Get your 1080ti checked, maybe it's a gtx 220 in disguise.

@hrv_25: I mean it, really.

@darth_gus: n I mean it. Game running smooth on my Pc. I only got one crash in one cutscenes and after that it was good. Turn v sync on and see if It still drops.

@hrv_25: youre running all settings maxed out?

Avatar image for hrv_25

@darth_gus: yes, everything in ultra or the max setttings there is. resolution 1080p at 60fps with v-sync on. although i have 32GB of RAM and a intel i7 7700k. Don't know if that's a factor.

@hrv_25: I strongly believe my low ram size and frequency is the issue, I will turn v-sync on and try.

And the PC port is still broken ofc.

Gotta love how they juts don't even give a shit and keep rolling these DLC's.

Good thing the game is crap anyways, so it won't be missed.

The only kudos can be given to these guys is not using Denuvo, that's about it. and after playing the game i know why they never bothered.

@indigoj: Do you have ANY idea what the modern mafia is like? Those days are gone, so they improvised. The mob didn't just exist in New York and Chicago...
