PS3 Tekken online play to cost $10
Would-be participants of the online Iron Fist tournament will first have to pay an entry fee. Namco Bandai Games America today announced that the online-enabled update to its downloadable PlayStation 3 game Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection will sell on the PlayStation Network for $9.99 when it's released "later this year." In addition to online multiplayer matches and rankings, the update will add practice and survival single-player modes. For more on the update, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

Geometry Wars Steam-ed, Windows XP-compatible
Though it's had a less-than-stellar start on the PC, Geometry Wars is having a few of its quibbles ironed out with a little help from Valve's downloadable-game service. Bizarre Creations announced earlier this week it would be making its arcade-style shoot-'em-up available on Steam, and that it would now be compatible with Windows XP in addition to Vista. Sweetening the deal further, Geometry Wars will initially be available for $2.95, with the price increasing to $3.95 on June 22. The Windows Vista-only version is still available through its original home, MSN Games, for $3.95, down from its original price of $7.95.

GGL announces PS3 shooter tourney
Not to be outdone by the World Series of Video Games signing with CBS, the Global Gaming League, in association with Sony Computer Entertainment and Insomniac Games, announced today the finals for its first nationwide Resistance: Fall of Man tournament will be broadcast on GamePlay HD, which also hosts some of GameSpot's content. Registration for the tournament begins today, and it is limited to 512 individual participants and 512 three-person teams. Interested participants can register at either GameStop's Web site or the tournament site proper. The tournament is set to begin July 7, with the finals slated for August 12.

First Nintendo Short Cuts Showcase winner crowned
Good vs. Wiivil, a film by Jack Paccione, Jr. from Staten Island, New York, has won top honors at the inaugural Nintendo Short Cuts Showcase. Participants in the competition were tasked with creating a three- to five-minute Nintendo-themed film, and among the judges for the event was Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime. As the grand prize winner, Paccione will receive $10,000, a screening of his film at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York, and a "power lunch" with Tribeca Film Festival cofounder Craig Hatkoff. All top 10 finalists will receive Nintendo systems and software, and their films can be viewed at the competition's Web site.

SOE putting PCs in Jeopardy! again
Sony Online Entertainment continues its push to further expand into the casual market this week. The online-game publisher today announced it would be adding Jeopardy! 2 to its portfolio. According to SOE, players can answer more than 3,000 questions by themselves, against CPU opponents, or locally against others, using the same keyboard. Also featured in the game will be a daily clue mode, as well as trophies and badges and three different difficulty settings. Jeopardy! can currently be purchased through SOE's online store or through Sony Pictures' Web site for $19.99.
