Microsoft has launched a new Xbox Family Settings app which will help parents tailor their children's use of the console.

Comments

Xbox has announced new family settings for those who are wanting to have more control over how the children in their lives use the console. Ranging from settings that will affect screen time use to content filters, parents will have over 20 customizable features to tweak to make sure that these new family settings are tailored to their needs.

These new Xbox family settings are accessible via an app, which is now available for users to preview on the iOS store and the Android store. This will give users of the Xbox Family Settings app the chance to manage family settings for compatible devices while on the go. The app is compatible with Xbox One, and will likely work with Xbox Series X, too

According to this blog on the Xbox website about the new Family Settings app, parents will be able to customize everything from when their children can access the console's functions, to blocking multiplayer functionality for titles as well as the ability to communicate with different users. The Xbox Family Settings app will also be able to produce weekly activity reports to help better track a child's use of the Xbox system.

Those being subject to the limits set by the Family Settings app will be able to request, through said app, changes to certain features. For example, requests can be made to extend the duration of set screentime, and these requests can be approved in real time within the Family Settings app. While the app is still in its preview stages, Microsoft is looking to add additional functionality upon release, including the ability for parents to control who their children accept friend requests from.

Currently, 10,000 iOS users will be able to download the Xbox Family Settings app. It is also available for all Android users to test and can be downloaded via this link.
