New Wonder Woman Movie Image Shows Gal Gadot Wielding the "God-Killer" Sword

A new image from next year's Wonder Woman has come online, showing star Gal Gadot picking up the mythical sword known as the "god-killer."

This is from the start of the movie. As Entertainment Weekly explains, Wonder Woman defies her mother, Queen Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen), and steals the sword from the island of Themyscira, which is populated exclusively by women. She then takes it with her to Europe to save the world.

Director Patty Jenkins told EW that this is a defining moment for Wonder Woman. "She's heard all the terrible things about man's land. But she's also heard that mankind is in need and under duress," she said. "This is her great moment to make the decision to be the one to try and save them."

Wonder Woman opens in June 2017 and also stars Chris Pine and Robin Wright. Gadot will also play Wonder Woman in November 2017's Justice League movie.

2016 is the 75th anniversary of the Wonder Woman character.
