New Wolfenstein 2 Ad Shows A Nazi Getting Punched In The Face

"There is only one side."

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus takes place in a Nazi-occupied America. B.J. Blazkowicz wants to rid America of Nazis, and one way he'll do that is by punching them directly in the face. A new ad for the game posted on Twitter today makes it clear that Nazis have no place in the land of hot dogs, baseball, and apple pie.

"There is only one side," reads the video's description. It then shows B.J. smacking a Nazi officer in the face. Text in the video says, "If you are a Nazi .... GTFO." Indeed.

GameSpot spoke with The New Colossus director Jens Matthies recently, and he told us how the game's story is "strangely topical," in an unfortunate way.

"That was definitely not something we anticipated," Matthies said about Wolfenstein II's Nazis-in-America story and the current American political climate. "We started writing the script in 2014 right after we released the first one. Somehow things have gotten strangely topical. Which of course is not something we anticipated or feel especially good about. That's the way it is, I guess."

You can read our full interview with Matthies here.

The much-anticipated sequel to 2014's The New Order from MachineGames and published by Bethesda launches on October 27 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. A Nintendo Switch version is coming in 2018.

I see nothing wrong with that. They're lucky the ad isn't someone decapitating a Nazi and spitting at the severed head. I for one will be killing Nazis in the game with a gleeful heart. If you're butt hurt about that, then consider yourself unamerican..

Bethesda's previous Wolfenstein sequel whitewashed the holocaust and had no mention of Hitler. There is nothing noble about what Bethesda are doing.

@jww109: It's called a "Game".

The rightists feel vilified and the leftists feel vindicated, Bethesda wanted this by using slogans that relate to recent politically charged events, therefore making the tired old gimmick of killing nazi feel somehow fresh again. Personally, it still feels tired and old to me, and all this childish bickering it sparks doesn't make the game any more approachable to me.

We've been killing Nazi's in games for decades now. Why is it now a political thing? Nazi's are the perfect bad guy, because NO ONE sympathizes with them. In fact, I believed not long ago that Nazi's were on their way out, and needed to be retired as villains because of how cliche it is, yet now it's topical?!

Don't mistake the fringe idiots that conservative media blows up with the actual core intentions of BLM.

Avatar image for edwardnygma

@robbehG: Uh no. When you have thousands of "protesters" aka rioters stealing, looting, burning, attacking, and talking about killing cops, that is no longer "fringe". That is core of the BLM. It is a hate group period.

The ammount of thinly veiled Nazi sympathizing in the comments is ridiculous.

Avatar image for domiddian

@robbehG: You're an imbecile. The comments are not sympathetic towards Nazis, they are about everyday people like you and me being labelled as Nazis because they voted for a right wing candidate. Yes, there are some horrible, racist, bigotted twats out there, but to blanket label 50odd million people as Nazis because they voted a certain way is wrong. THIS is what the whole discussion is about.

@domiddian: I don't knowww man. I once knew a Trump Supporter who was a nazi, so that must mean most of them are, right? I'm sure there are a few decent ones though. /s

@robbehG: I mean not far off the the sort of blanket logic he implies towards Muslims though.

Avatar image for robbehG

@robbehG: And I mean it did take him a few days to issue a half hearted teleprompter condemnation of the Nazis/White Supremacists in Charlottsville. But he certainly had no lack of passion when calling the NFL kneelers sons of bitches. And up until recently he had a direct relationship with Steve Bannon, who's ties to the alt right don't even need to be talked about. So yeah, if a leftist person is slightly relating Trump with Neo Nazi's, it's not completely out of... left field.

And then you've got facist bigots running around saying that anyone you disagree with is a Nazi and must be punched in the face. So now you get to punch anyone you disagree with politically. Nice job facists you become what you've condemned

I wonder if this game is crap, I notice that they are using emotions to sell the game trying to get people riled up, I dont care about shooting the devil or nazis what I care about is playing a good game.

Why don't they make a game about fighting hate groups like BLM and Antifa next? That is a game worth buying.

Avatar image for sickie

@edwardnygma: Why do you sympathize with Nazi's?

@sickie: LOL nobody has sympathy for Nazis. There are a whole 10 in the US now. That isn’t relevant. What is relevant are the pathetic hate groups I just mentioned.

Such tryhards. If Beth story telling could hold it up, I would give this game a try, but since their stories are normally shallow af, they just sound like noisy idiots now.

Fun Fact: Bethesda is incapable of fighting Nazis.

If you are a Nazi, punch them in the face, fair enough. When anyone right of centre are being labelled as Nazi’s and the devs state their game is ‘strangely topical’ then I think this advert has a problem.

To anyone who doesn’t understand why people might not like this add let me explain. Yes, we can agree that the Nazis of ww 2 were evil bastards that did horrible things, but when the developers try to relate an alt future game to modern politics is gets pretty scary. First their are idiot racist neo-nazis like in Charlottesville but this is a very rare example. Though The media has done a great job of painting every non Clinton support a nazi and activity advocates violence towards them. While in fact Antifa and black lives matter protesters have committed a lot more violence than modern day nazi. I for one do not have a problem with the marketing of the game I just think that the correlation between their game and molders politics is completely absurd.

Funny, I don't recall any black lives matter supporter fatally running over a civilian in a crowd.

@gpac200: you are such a sheep. Here is the fbi statistic: 3 out of 4 hate crimes are against white people.

@gpac200: No, Black Lives Matter activists instead destroy property, steal, commit arson, and have chants like "Dead cops now" or "Pigs in a blanket. Fry'em like bacon" (referring to cops of course) as signs of their movement. BLM is the modern day KKK and a hate group. Antifa is just as bad.

Avatar image for Sohereiam

@gpac200: Maybe not running over a civilian, but torching cars, beating people down, attacking elderly, handicapped, threatening to burn down a restaurant, shooting people on a concert, promoting death of anyone who disagree's with them, shooting cops, etc... there's a hue list of what Antifa and BLM supporters did and will do.

Avatar image for spikedmouse

I think the actual problem here is that the director is saying that the game has become topical. With all the "punch a nazi" propaganda in the US. Which is a really unfortunate comment in my view. When did nazis rulling over america become a topical subject ?

And Gamespot goes on to had, "... Matthies said about ... the current American political climate."

Gamespot you are a gaming related platform, remember that.

Like i said, unfortunate comment, on both ends ...

Remember when ANYTHING related to Nazis (and or neo-nazis) was completely frown upon? People rally against all of it? Those were good times... Now they have rights! Rights to be homophobic, racists...

No, people! They face the right into be punched into oblivion.

Ask any german what they would do to a Nazi now-a-days, and you see how that should be dealt with! Ohhh and it's was their grandfathers who fought in WW2... So stop with the Confederacy BS...

Americans reaaaally need to study history...

Avatar image for The_Dragon_Born

@edussz: so if you don't like the right you can label them Nazi? You know the right is against socialism, racism and genocide right? Democrats keep blacks voting for government aid that is never enough and keeps them a slave to the system and Republicans freed the slaves. You remember Abe Lincoln? Oh and upholding immigration law isn't Racist. Barack Obama said that btw

Avatar image for edussz

@The_Dragon_Born: I'm in no way saying that Republicans(the right) are nazis... I'm saying that racists, homophobes, biggots in general are. That's basically what it stood for.

Avatar image for The_Dragon_Born
The_Dragon_Born

@edussz: people are genuinely afraid of homosexuals? That's what homophobia is. So your solution would be to punch them into being less scared...I think maybe that is a dumb idea.

Avatar image for domiddian

@edussz: You're right, of course, but I think you are missing the wider context of this message. Liberals in America have been chanting this mantra “punch a Nazi in the face” ever since Trump won the candidacy. And they have been tarring any Trump supporter with the “Nazi” brush, which is of course nonsense. When ordinary people like you and me who just want the best for their country are labelled as Nazi’s, then yes, those “Nazi’s” do have rights, because they are not Nazi’s at all. But this is what the left wants us to believe.

No, it’s not ok to punch Nazis in real life unless it’s self defence. This should go without saying but ofcourse leftists hate free speech and insist that everyone right of centre is a Nazi that must be assaulted.
