Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is the next game from Ninja Gaiden developer Team Ninja, and it looks to be a spiritual successor to its recent Nioh series. New gameplay reveals the game's improved stealth, nuanced combat systems, and impressive array of monsters.

Like the beloved Dynasty Warriors series, Wo Long is set during the Three Kingdoms period of Chinese history. However, unlike the musou games, Wo Long seems to be much more about one-on-one combat with a variety of tough bosses, similar to the excellent Souls-inspired Nioh games.

However, Team Ninja's new game looks to take inspiration from another From Software project, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Wo Long features a posture mechanic very similar to that of Miyazaki's ninja game, where well-timed parries and constant offense allow you to stun them and tear huge chunks of your opponent's vitality at a time. Wo Long definitely has the most in common with the Nioh games, especially in its flair for big character-action combos and flashy offense. It's pretty visually impressive, too.

Overall, Wo Long looks like a highly-promising update to Team Ninja's recent formula. We haven't seen many major games that take notes from Sekiro yet, so it'll be interesting to see if this starts a trend. Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty will release on March 3, 2023. It will be a day-one Xbox Game Pass title.
